According to Oxford dictionary, “believe” means accepting something that is true, even without proof. Hence, “I believe I can fly” give the definition of I accepting that I am able to fly is true, even without any proof. I had chosen this song, I believe I can fly, as for this lyrics analysis project. I believe I can fly was a 1996 song which written by R. Kelly and also sung by him. R. Kelly is an American recording artist, songwriter, and record producer. R. Kelly illustrated his great confidence with the word “believe”, and the word “fly” emphasized his trust in the great confidence that he has. This song used the spiritual facts which giving hope to the listener. This song leads my emotion to the extent to which I felt that I am being motivated from the inner part of my spirit. Additionally, the song gave me the hope and confidence to move on my life. For instance, sometimes the life will be facing difficulties and challenging, by listening to this song, I was being inspired to believe that I am able to pass through the difficulties and challenges, and believing in myself. If an individual does not give up, their dream will be obtainable. In addition, Kelly also wrote the song into two different interpretations. He talks about some of the darker times of his life, or moments when he struggled with depression, such as the phrase “I used to think that I could not go on” and “See I was on the verge of breaking down”. However, he then got reminded of God's love and now knows what “true” love is. The phrase “leaning on the everlasting arms” is a common phrase for “trusting God”. He also talks about missing the love of his life. In the first stanza, I changed some word to more suit to my experiences. Instead of knowing the meaning of true love, I changed the true love to real life. From my understanding, true love usually illustrates romantic love. So, I felt that real life is more suit to what I had understand. Moreover, I changed the phrase “I’m leaning on the everlasting arms” to “I’m standing straight right up on mountain top”. The reason why I changed into this phrase is I am proud that I have understand the meaning of real life and I want to achieve a higher performance. So, I am now standing straight on the mountain
