Part 1:The problem I am focusing on is growing racism towards Hispanics and Latino groups. This is important to write about because it affects so many people. Latinos are expected to be one of the largest ethnic groups in the United States, but with their rise in population so has the racism and crimes against them. This is very important for me to write about. I am a very white presenting Latina, so I don’t face many of these challenges, but my family has first-hand. Part 2:“Why is there growing racism towards Latino groups in the United States?”“What is the cause of growing racism towards Latino groups in the United States?”“In what ways does media portrayal of Latino immigrants contribute to racial biases and stereotypes?’With my research, I am going to have to learn a lot about the causes and effects of racism against Latinos and how it affects them as a community andpeople on a wide scale. Racism towards Latinos doesn’t only affect Latinos asmany people of different races end up marrying Latinos. Most people I know have at least one Latino in their family even if they aren’t themselves. Part 3:I will probably use Web sources, government or official documents, and secondary and primary research. For most research papers I have written in the past I’ve used Jstor and academic journals to get my information. I think those will be the most valuable for me as they store the most information and usually include a study. Using government documents like the census can be important to talk about the rising population of Latinos. Web sources can be useful as they willtalk about instances of racism towards these groups. Part 4:Latinos are one of the smallest demographics of people at Mizzou. Only making up 5.7% of the student body. Because of this, there isn’t much representation and issues that they face can be overshadowed. I hope that someone will read what I wrote and empathize with groups different from them.
