QUEENS COLLEGE OF THE CITY UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORKDEPARTMENT OF ACOUNTING AND INFORMATION SYSTEMSACCOUNTING 201 SYLLABUSSpring 2021ACCT-201 Section 03 (Prerequisite ACCT -102)Tuesday and Thursday from 2:15 to 4:05 PMCOURSE OBJECTIVESThe objective of this course is to provide students with the skills and knowledge needed to obtain a conceptual, analytical, and practical understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)specified in the Financial Accounting Standards Board's (FASB) authoritative Accounting Standards Codification (ASC). Applicable guidance of the Securities and Exchange Commission will also be studied. GAAP is given comprehensive in depth coverage and is tempered with a discussion of international financial reporting accounting standards as they relate to the convergence objectives of the FASB and International Accounting Standards Board. The course also emphasizes the requisite skills needed to critically analyze and solve complex financial accounting problems using the FASB's computerized Accounting Standards Codification and Microsoft Excel. In addition to enhancing students' critical thinking and computer literacy, a major objective will be to develop their skills relating to written and oral communication in financial accounting. This aggregate knowledge will enable students to fully understand, utilize, and communicate the guidance issued by the authoritative bodies of the accounting profession needed to meet the accounting challenges of our current and future economic environments.Instructor:Tao Sun, PhD, CPAEmail:tao.sun@qc.cuny.eduOffice Hours: 6:45 PM – 7:45 PM Tuesday and ThursdayThrough Zoom (Please send me an email in advance.)REQUIRED MATERIALSAccounting TextIntermediate AccountingKieso, Weygandt, and Warfield,John Wiley, 17th Edition, 2019(Loose -leaf edition) (ISBN: 9781119503583)Including Wileyplus AccessBlackboard Materials:Lecture slides and exercises.COURSE POLICIES:Grading:Exam #125%Exam #225%Exam #325%WileyPlus - Homework 25%Total 100%Grading Scale:95-100% A+1
