In my experience writing about workshops, I learned that not everyone is open-minded on the subject of LGBTQ. When people aren’t around transgender people it’s difficult forthem to understand them. We are just people all we want is to be heard, seen, and loved. When people aren’t sure what pronouns to refer to just ask them. If they misgender a person say I’m sorry. I’ll remember for next time. Respect is the most important thing you can do for another person.I decided to have them go to a drag show in Long Beach so they could get into the LGBTQ culture. Being in an LGBTQ-friendly city. Seeing all of the gay pride flags flying. Same-sex couples holding hands and hugging. Seeing transgender people walking around without a care in the world. I want everyone from the retreat to understand they are just people. We have more in common than we are different. We can learn from oneanother and grow to make the world a better place without hate and more understanding and love. Many people who didn’t grow up with the LGBTQ community around. Especially the older generation, religious people, and people who are from the country. There are LGBTQ people everywhere but they are still in the closet. Many LGBTQ are scared to be themselves because they are afraid of judgment. They are also scared that will be hurt or even killed. This project was eye-opening because I would think 2024 people wouldn’t need a retreat to learn about biases around the LGBTQ community.
