Cayetana Velasco MYP 3 FORM II DSOCIAL ENTERPRISE TED TALKCayetana Velasco MYP III FORM IIDNowadays, the perspectives of society on the concept of “a business rolemodel” is in constant change. Sometimes the “role model businesses” arereferred to as social enterprises; companies and enterprises that CARETRULY about society and changing somehow our world and environment. This is because the world is in constant change too, and our ideals andgoals each time change. Currently, society’s main goal is to save theworld, our environment, and biodiversity. These days, society will prefer toconsume from a business that cares about them, helps and contributes tothe change in environment and society. However, let’s talk about the traditional idea and perspective of a “rolemodel business”. This consists of “the idea that if customers liked theproduct and it made good profits for its owners then that was enough.”This means that the expectations of a traditional role model business, onthe perspective of society, was that if the business’s services andproducts, satisfied the consumers and was a stable business, then it wasconsidered a “role model” and a really good business in the market.Despite this, at present, the requirements and expectations of a “rolemodel business”, are much more than that. This means that to beconsidered a “role model business” today, it has to be a social enterprise, that has a social mission and commitment to influence on society and theenvironment. Moreover, the business has to be clean and transparent; theproducts and services they offer need to be sustainable. The traditionalperspective of what a role model business is, is now forgotten.Furthermore, the perspective that business needs to meet the needs of awider range of stakeholders to be a role model business citizen, is veryimportant for a business's success nowadays. The stakeholders are theones that will support your business and help it by giving the perspectiveof consumers and customers of their products and services. Besides, it willalso help the business establish relationships with the community andunderstand the client’s needs. In addition, stakeholders benefit thebusinesses, by giving demands and expectations for the business toimprove and finally reach success. We can finally say, that stakeholdersare essential and key, for the business to be guided and oriented, andultimately become a “business role model citizen”.On the other hand, we can discuss that it's really important for a businessto have evidence that it is a sustainable enterprise. This is because if wehave evidence, then people will trust the enterprise, and that will ensure

Also, as the society’s most popular ideal is tosave our world and be “eco-friendly”, being sustainable will benefit theenterprise, because society will support this kind of behavior and attitudein companies and businesses. Do you know that 62% of executives think that being sustainable is anessential and necessary strategy to be competitive nowadays? Havingproof of being sustainable will also allow people to consume the brand andcompany through generation to generation because society feels securewhen they know the process and manufacture of the products they areusing and consuming. In this way, the company or business will succeedand become a company in which everyone can trust. In conclusion, we can say that “business role models”, are very difficult todetermine, because they vary from year to year, depending on the societyand their point of view. Everything in the market and businesses dependson society’s needs and demands; however, social projection iscompulsory, and is not negotiable.
