Purposeful Reflection WorksheetName: Clayton GillenTopic(s): The Reversal Theory.Content: Identify and briefly describe one construct/concept that stood out to you from the lecture, reading, etc.Every athlete I know can attest to getting reinforcement from coaches whether it was good or bad. Getting reinforcement from coaches occurs at all levels and in all sports. Reinforcement from coaches most definitely factors in to how athletes respond to what they are doing and how they play. There are two different kinds of reinforcement, and they are positive and negative. It is important for coaches to understand positive and negative reinforcement because no two athletes are the same. One way to look at positive and negative reinforcement is to see positive as adding a reward and negative as taking away something that might seem unpleasant for the player. Application: Apply ONE construct/concept to a personal/professional experience. I saw this firsthand when it came to incoming freshman on the football team. As a senior i knew my coach kind of went towards the negative reinforcement approach when it came to the upperclassman such as myself because we had been there and he knew that we could handle criticism. Meanwhile, when it came to the incoming freshman and newcomers, my coach took the more positive approach with encouragement because he knew that what they were learning was all new concepts.
