Micr 2054—MotW Week 13Microbe of the Week: Human viral diseasesNOTE: I only included one disease on my example because I did not want to "steal" all the good ones from you! You will need to do TWO viral diseases! Add them to the same figure, like I show below.References:https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2016/09/how-zika-affects-cranial-precursor-cells.htmlhttps://pneumoniaresearchnews.com/2016/07/25/new-clinical-practice-guidelines-recommend-shorter-antibiotic-courses-pneumonia-treatment/https://www.nih.gov/news-events/nih-research-matters/zika-virus-structure-revealedZika virusStructure and Genetics:Positive strand RNA virus, enveloped, includes glycoproteins. Family FlaviviridaeTransmission:Spread by mosquitos or by person-to-person bodily fluidsSigns and Symptoms:fever, rash, headache, joint pain, red eyes, muscle pain. Can cause microcephaly (see diagram), if apregnant woman is infected.Other facts:I chose to look at the epidemiology of the disease. The graph below shows relationship between Zika and age. I also looked up cases by year. In the US, there was a huge spike in 2016 with over 5000 cases, but by 2019 that was 22, and this year (2020) only 2 cases have been reported in the US.Virus 2:Causes pneumonia (just giving this as an example, obviously you must add the required information about each virus.)
