Kyle GarrettJournal 4 – Choice, Growth Mindset, & ResilienceThe power of choice shapes my fixed and growth mindset by enabling me to determine my own path for growth. When I have the freedom to approach situations in ways that suit my needs, I thrive. While it's easy to grow under direct guidance, I've found that I learn best when I'm informed of my mistakes. This prompts me to research and reflect on what I could improve. This self-directed analysis helps me adapt and enhances my ability to grow over time. The lessons that I can apply from Uncle Cleve’s example on developing my resilience arealways having a positive outlook on things, embracing challenges, and learning from failures. I believe that these 3 things are HUGE when it comes to being able to develop resilience. It allowsthe mind to understand that even if something is going wrong, you can change the outcome of that situation. If we aren’t open to embracing challenges and learning when something is going wrong then we aren’t growing. The first step to growth is being willing to understand what it takes to grow, and not letting our failures define who we are or what we are capable of doing. The key components of Dr. Dweck’s article, “Mindsets: Developing Talent through a Growth Mindset” that I can apply to my own life are learning and embracing your mistakes. I believe these 2 are the most important because you aren’t growing without them. I believe to grow yourself you need to always be learning, there is always something for you to learn and it never stops. I also believe it is just as important, if not more important to embrace your mistakes.Without embracing your mistakes then you aren’t growing. Making mistakes is a part of learninghow to be better. No one is perfect, so you can always embrace your mistakes and learn from those mistakes to make yourself a better person.
