Brooklyn Allen12.03.2024Girls Health & PE II5.15.T - Lesson: Research Economic and Social EnvironmentsPopulation; The total population of Mocksville, North Carolina is approximately 5,900; it’s a relatively small town compared to others.Age; The median age is about 34 years old. There is a relatively diverse range in ages all over the small town, a significant portion of it falling into the working-age group.Business and Industry; Once again as a relatively small town there aren’t many big, well known businesses, mostly family-ran businesses. On the odd occasion there are a select few well-known businesses such as Novant HealthCare, and obviously fast-food businesses.Education; Mocksville is very small, so there aren’t many schools, however we do have a few. We have Davie County Community College, North and South Davie (middle schools), William R. Davie and Mocksville Elementary, and Davie High.Government; As any other town, we have a Mayor and a City Hall in the downtown areas of Mocksville.Housing; The median estimated value for the average housing in Davie County is approximately $290,506; $154/sqft.Income; The median income is $46,553.
Poverty; The poverty percentage in Mocksville is 23.7%.Unemployment Rate; The unemployment rate for Davie County is 3.2, though it definitely varies over time.Foreclosed or Abandoned Housing; Mocksville has experienced issues with foreclosed or abandoned homes, especially during economic downturns. To tackle these challenges, the city has introduced initiatives like foreclosure prevention programs and efforts to revitalize neighborhoods.Thriving Retail or Shuttered Shops; There aren’t many ‘shuttered shops’ and if there were, they’ve been torn down and the land is in the process of being used for something else. On occasion, however, you will see the few abandoned gas stations or junkyards.Crime Rates or Fear of Crime; In my general area, there’s basically no crime at all, the most that I see, on the map used for my research, shows it’s all in Winston-Salem and Greensboro.Noise That Interrupts Sleep; There’s not usually any noise other than the few times that the train runs, along with the occasional car that drives down the road. Sometimes, people in the distance will often fire off their guns at targets, so that is heard as well, albeit not very often.Neighbors That Know and Trust Each Other; Our neighbors are very friendly people, we often help each other out with things such as mowing the lawn, outside work, etc. They can be trusted, as well.Degree of Racial Integration; There seems to be a variety of different races inthe town of Mocksville, from African American, Hispanic, White, Asian, Islander, etc.
Places of Worship; Our town is a very Christianity-oriented town, resulting in there being churches all over the county.
