Fact: The amygdala is the brain’s emotional control center.The amygdala regulates the brain’s response to emotions such as fear, excitement, and pleasure. As part of the brain’s limbic system, it is located next to the hippocampus – the part of the brain that plays a significant role in converting information from working memory to long-term memory. Exposure to long-term stress has been found to cause damage to the amygdala which may explain why some students, particularly those from poverty, struggle to regulate their emotions and behavior (Lau, 2016).Research another part of the brain and provide a short explanation of its purpose and the role it plays, specifically in learning and adolescent development. Try to research areas that your peers have not already posted information aboutA huge part of the brain that plays a role in learning and development happens to be the hippocampus. When looking at most definitions, the hippocampus is the main part of the brain that stores information. RachaelAjmera states, “In addition, short-term memories are converted into long-term memories in the hippocampus. These are then stored elsewhere in the brain” (Ajmera,2023). When looking at development, it can be seen at times that certain information is not retained by adolescents. Within the hippocampus this is where it is stored and regulated. But not all adolescents retain the same information as some deem other information more important than others. This all leads to how the hippocampus play a role in the attention of the adolescents as well. The hippocampus is essentially the central unit of the brain that helps with the development ofvarious functions that a student will go through, especially when learning.Ajmera, R.
