2Class Observation Education PsychologyEducational psychology is the idea of studying theories and concepts from various psychology sections and applying them in an academic setting. Thus, the main objective of educational psychology is to develop a positive teacher-student relationship. Educational psychology utilizes five types of psychology, constructivist, social cognitive, developmental cognitive, and behavioral. In this research project, I will analyze classroom observations used by the teacher in the class lessonClass objectivesMr. Ryan outlines the communication course objectives in a written form. These objectives include; students will be able to apply, understand human communication and language knowledge as it occur across different backgrounds. Students will also be able to assessthe main theoretical strategies utilized in the interdisciplinary field of communication. Besides, students will comprehend and investigate techniques connected with the knowledge of human touch. More so, students will communicate effectively, orally, and in writing. Lastly, students will search, use and assess primary academic writing linked with communication discipline Instructional methods and strategiesThe teacher employs constructive theory while teaching to ensure students learn best via active learning, relate information to their former knowledge, and absorb it in unique ways. He uses various instructional methods such as cooperative learning to encourage scholars with diverse capabilities to facilitate small teams or entire class activities. Further inquiry-based instructions by inspiring scholars to ask queries and examine their opinions to help improve theirproblem-solving abilities and gain more understanding of academic perceptions. Behavior management, such as fun and interactive reward charts, allows students to gain respect and have
3an equal opportunity of attaining their full potential. Further effective use of questions to seek out student strengths and weaknesses as well as motivate students to participate in class (Ayua, 2017, 6). The planned repetition strategy to enable students to learn past the threshold of forgetting. Moreover, differentiation through allocating class activities according to scholars' unique learning by handing out worksheets that differentiate in complexity and establishing many work stations. Lastly, the use of visuals as video clips and photos. Strategies to assess learningThe teacher evaluates learning through formative and summative assessments. Formative assessments monitor student progress to help students recognize their weaknesses and strengths and target sections that need improvement. The teacher asked the students to write a concept in class to demonstrate their comprehension of the topic. Also, scholars to submit one sentence identifying the central idea of the lecture. Additionally, summative assessment to assess scholar learning at the end of the unit by instructing to write about their final project. Besides, the teacher uses an oral assessment strategy to evaluate student’s outcomes by questioning them. Theteacher-student questions at the end of the lecture for 2-3 minutesClassroom management strategiesThe teacher implements the Skinner's operant conditioning theory of managing the classroom, which gets based on the notion that learning is a function of change in overt behavior.For those students who raise their hands to respond to question, the teachers choose only one to respond and then complements the comment. Further, the teacher ignores students' behavior by answering questions without being selected while others listen attentively. However, the teacher implements extrinsic motivation, such as rewards and praise, to enable students to participate in class (Aliakbari & Bozorgmanesh, 2015). This type of incentive is highly significant since most
4students are excited while reading to obtain the reward. Further, the teacher implements Kohn's student's directed learning approach by allowing students to explore topic interesting them more. The teacher also intermingles with students respectfully, and the students get excited about learning and asking questions. Lastly, the teacher implements Glasser's choice strategy by guiding scholars in understanding that hard work and practicing obedience are worth and will positively impact their lives (Lynch, 2020). The teacher develops a positive connection with scholars, active and relevant learning experience which allows scholars to show control and success.Communication techniquesThe teacher communicates effectively during the lesson by verbal, non-verbal and body language by demonstrating respectful communication by utilizing a tone that is real and diplomatic (Bambaeerooi & Shokrpour, 2017). He makes sufficient eye contact with the studentsand chooses appropriate terms. Additionally, the teachers offer hand-outs that outlines the points he is creating and displays various visual tools such as charts in different parts of the classroom. The teacher checks for understanding more often by asking students to note the lecture's summary or write a query about the class. Furthermore, the teacher utilizes non-verbal communication, such as gestures and facial expressions. He displays smiles to students who participate fully in the classroom and rolls his eye at student questions. The rapport with studentsgets clearly established since the student’s class engagement increases by asking questions and promoting teamwork in group discussions. Lastly, rapport allows students to respond to assessments correctly.
5Student’s identityThe students in the class are boys and girls undertaking an English lecture. I noted that the students came from diverse regions because some are Black American while others are whites. Correspondingly there are Muslim students, and two students have disabilities. In addition, students have a positive interaction in their respective teams, and the majority of them get motivated to participate in class activities because of rewards and teachers’ comments. More so, others come from a poor background since they have torn uniforms while others have pleasing uniforms. However, white students have a bad attitude towards black students in their respective groups. The teacher groups the instructions of diverse students by grouping them via shared interests and making their statements.Effective instructive strategies I would use.I will use an instructive visualization strategy since students easily understand the concepts, and information lasts longer. Also, visuals enhance simpler and quicker, especially if the data gets listed in bullets. Further visualization drives the student's motivation due to engaging clips and compelling images. Visualization assists students in fighting boredom and inspiring them to do better. Besides, visuals stimulate student's emotions establishing lasting memories in scholars. I will also use cooperative learning since it enables students to works towards a common goal and inspire them to assist each other in a team. Students can establish their opinions to explain them to their group members and to reinforce their learning. Scholars can also translate the teacher's language into the learner's language for each other. Teamwork canhelp a learner prepare for exam and provide personal attention to each other. However, I will avoid the repetition strategy since it's dull and time-consuming. Similarly, the inquiry-based approach embarrasses students and prevents the teacher from preparing well for a lecture.
6Effective classroom management strategies I would useI will use Skinners operative conditioning since it gets based on the principle that classroom or students' behaviors and actions will get repeated. The use of rewards or positive consequences for particular conduct is done by shaping when positive reinforcement is utilized to reward good behavior in a series of steps. I will use Glasser’s choice strategy because it inspires students’ independence in classroom and allows them to understand the concepts. It facilitates students' interactions, and participation and students are less likely to misbehave. Honestly, I did not observe any classroom management strategy that I will avoid using in my class.Teacher’s philosophies and stylesFrom my observation, student-centered learners take an active role in their education since they collaborate with their instructors and learn together. The teacher's goal is to facilitate and coach scholar education and entire understanding of the topic as well as assess students' learning via formative and summative evaluations. Students develop an association with their instructor and exchange ideas and queries with each other, which will be more complicated in a teacher-student approach. Also, a student-centered approach provides skills and knowledge a student requires to progress as well as encourages inquiry in learners. Moreover, the strategy allows students to get more confident in articulating their thoughts and opinions. Teacher centered approach limits itself since learners depend only on the teacher and do not facilitate higher cognitive skills.Additionally, the hybrid style incorporates the teacher's personality and interests in teaching. Delegator stye allows the teachers to take an observer role to promote collaboration
7and motivate student-student learning besides using a high-tech approach where the teacher used a tablet to assign homework. Finally, the authority style does not offer student engagement in theclassroom.In conclusion, the teacher has successfully used significant theories and concepts used in educational psychology in the classroom. He states lesson objectives effectively and utilizes various instructional methods while teaching. Furthers, he uses the proper body, verbal, and non-verbal language to convey his message. Similarly, he evaluates students through oral, formative, and summative in the lecture and apply operating conditioning theory to manage the classroom. Finally, he identifies his students and groups them based on their interests and ability.
