This tragedy dramatizes the different spheres of life and damages the psychological, physical, and political ambitions of all those seeking power. The main characters are Mike Battaglia and Washizu One of the classic films in Macbethwas: Throne of Blood (1957) and Men of Respect (1990).From the Throne of Blood, we find a character named Washizu. In the other film, Men of Respect, we find another character Battaglia. These two characters have a remarkable similarity that exhibits Aristotelian tragedy. We can get an unmistakable resemblance and difference between the two characters. Comparing and contrasting the two characters will be of great importance as that will help me know more about their character traits. Therefore this paper will compare and contrast Battaglia and Washizu from Macbeth.Body paragraphs Washizu is the main character in the Throne of Blood (1957).There is a lot to learn aboutthis character, but it's essential to look at the significant character traits. Washizu is seen as a warrior through his perseverance and urges to protect his people (Cardullo, 33-51). From the dramatic scene, we see an image of “a person who is pierced by arrows” but at a standstill and is very brave to face the enemy. When one is injured on the battlefield, one tends to give up and does not find the urge to continue with the fights, but that is not the case with Washizu. Like the warrior he was, he defended his people and could stand anything that could come his way. Therefore we see a warrior in him and not only a warrior but a very courageous warrior.Another character trait of Washizu is that he is very confident and focused. Living in the "rain-drenched forest," Washizu was very secure and gave no room for surrender. He used to livein a place no ordinary human being would wish even to spend a day. His confidence in defending
Surname2the people was extraordinary. We see someone with a confident face and a focused purpose. He could even scare anyone who dared to come across him, even if he was not engaging in a fight with him. He gave no room for being desperate and was much tamed when fighting for power. He stands fearless no matter how hurt he is to prove his point and ensure he gets victory over what he was fighting for. This confidence and passion when it comes to war was another character trait of Washizu.Washizu was power-thirsty. After sensing betrayal, Washizu becomes power-hungry, andhe is willing to do anything to ensure that he gets the power he was yearning for (Donovan). He looked like a person who had no other purpose in life but to gain control. His crumbling confidence is what made him become so much into getting power. He was willing to fight to the last arrow, as we see towards the film's end. He eventually lost his life through his thirst for power as he fought to the last minute. He was hit by an arrow that sent him to the ground, which became the ending of the film. Therefore we see his hunger for power identifies Washizu’s character. He was very arrogant and willing to get the ability, which ended up costing him his dear life. Mike Battaglia was the main character in Macbeth’sMen of Respect film (1990.Like any other character in a movie, he had traits that distinguished him from the rest of the actors. First, he was a go-getter. When he set his mind on doing something, he made sure he accomplished it. While he was killing his rivals, he made sure he tactfully managed to eliminate all of them, meaning he was indeed a go-getter. He told what he worked for and was willing to fight for it tillthe very end. His wife, Ruthie, was taking good care of him during this mission and also gave him advice on how to execute his plans without being known. In various instances, he was up to the task and could be seen stabbing some of his rivals while they were asleep. We, therefore, get to learn that, indeed, Mike was a go-getter by the way he fought his enemies even at night while everyone else was asleep. The fearlessness in Battaglia is another character that distinguishes him from the rest of the characters in the film. Coming to the point of stabbing someone at night is not a joke. At night you can also fall victim to the calamity you are spewing on your rival, but Mike Battaglia was fearless and went for them at that time (Byrne). He was very confident and did not hide his identity like a serial killer. He killed them and made them look for him. This fearlessness was what Battaglia lived up to; he was courageous to the extent of killing his boss. He did not fear therepercussion of the killing but was willing to do it to prove his bravery. Therefore the courage and the fearlessness of Battaglia are all a result of his character, and he wanted to prove that, indeed, he was powerful. Mike Battaglia was hungry for power until he went to the extent of killing his boss (Zen). The fill gives us an accurate picture of Battaglia as a man who wanted to kill everyone for him todominate. He killed his boss just as he was used to killing many innocent people. He tried to remain the only boss and become dominant and control all the happenings. He was willing to do
Surname3everything for the sake of power, and that gave him the reason for eliminating all his rivals since they were the only stabling block to his path and plans to cling to power and control the other people. We, therefore, get to see the true character of power hunger in Mike Battaglia. All these traits are manifested throughout the film, which helps us learn more about this character. Conclusion In conclusion, there are similarities between the two characters. Battaglia and Washizu were both warriors, they were also confident and fearless. The two characters were also hungry for power. They were both brave people who could do anything to prove their brave nature. Theycould not stand oppression, which is why they decided to kill people in many instances. They both had confidence, and this confidence made them become feared people as they endangered the lives of those close to them. They were both killers and lived killing people to get power.Works CitedCardullo, R. J. "Kurosawa’s Rashomon, re-viewed." Asian Cinema 30.1 (2019): 33-51.
