Assignment CONSTRUCTION CAD and BIM1 Learning Outcomes1. Transfer traditional drawing and detailing skills to the CAD environment and use CAD software to produce drawings and construction details. 2. Recognise the various features and functions of BIM and CAD systems and explore their application in your design process. Explain how they can be helpful in achieving sustainability, security, ethics and health and safety issues. 3. Understand the role of 3D design software and its use in the professional practice of civil engineering. COURSEWORK Introduction You have been appointed to prepare an initial conceptual design and implementation report on a hotel building near the expressway that links an international airport in the major city in the UK. The Client, who is a private investor, needs a five-storey framed hotel building. The building frame provides the structure for a series of high specification rooms, offices, meeting rooms and a restaurant which are intended to be built in the south of England, around Heathrow Airport. The hotel building can be developed with steel or concrete or a combination of both. In your design consider the following. Sustainability. Ethical considerations ( e.g provide a ramp access for disabled people) Security and risk and health and safety issues. (Fire exits etc)Assignment Requirement On behalf of the client, you are tasked with the responsibility of preparing the construction information package that will allow the construction team to build the project. The package of information required includes the following: Site plan Floor plan Elevations Section/Details

Assignment CONSTRUCTION CAD and BIM2 Door and window schedules In your report compare the roles of CAD and BIM in the collaborative production ofconstruction information. Further give a brief justification for producing specific information, comparing the choices you have made with other potential information types. Consider sustainability, ethics, risk, health and safety in your design. (minimum: 1500 words). All drawings are to be on a minimum sheet size of A3 using appropriate scale. They should include a title block, showing project information, and be numbered using an industry standard. Drawings should be produced using an industry standard CAD software package. BIM software may be used but is not required. Submission Requirements All the drawings and report should be converted to a single PDF file and submitted electronically. Summary of Assessment Method: An individual portfolio-based assignment requiring you to analyse a brief and propose the design for a simple construction project. (Approximately: 1500 words.)
