Good evening classmates,Based on the case provided for this discussion I think the responsibility for “policing” fake news falls on the shoulders of all involved parties to varying degrees. The company that produces the productneeds to be aware of how their product is being marketed, ignorance is no excuse. The advertising company is probably the most responsible party because they are making the conscious decision to run an ad using “fake news”. The consumer is also responsible for doing their own due diligence to make sure that they are getting the most accurate information they can. This includes listening to reports thatrun counter to what you may believe, just because it does not agree with you doesn’t mean it doesn’t hold merit. The government involvement and social media outlet involvement should be closely monitored to avoid the perception of censorship.I think that it is unethical for a company to allow their ads to run on controversial sites. The driving factor to allow the ads to run, in my opinion, is greed. I the website runs contentious click-baity stories that may not be entirely true they have the potential to generate extra ads revenue through what the reading termed “rage clicks”. If a company is honest, has a quality product, and a normal human moral compass they really should not be advertising in that way. Thank you for reading my post,I look forward to your feedback!-Brian
