An Introduction to Recruitment, Training, and Compensation in the Field of HumanResource ManagementThe sections of Human Resource Management that I have chosen to research are Recruitment and Selection, Training and Development, and Compensation. I chose these areas because they are all very closely related, occasionally overlap, and are the most interesting to me as career paths.Recruitment and selection has the major function of sorting through candidates and selecting personnel that meet the necessary requirements. An HR specialist in this area must determine the current needs of the business, and create a job description (Noe, 2023). They may also sort through resumes or interview candidates to determine if they are a possible fit, helping to narrow the applicant pool for the hiring manager (Indeed, 2022c). Jobs in this career path include Recruiting Coordinator, Talent Acquisition Specialist, Recruiting Manager, and Recruiting Director with salaries ranging from $39,000-84,000, and averaging at $56,000 per year (Miller-Merrell, 2023). Common challenges in recruiting include difficulties with hiring efficiency, hiring remote candidates, and maintaining a positive reputation to attract new talent (Indeed, 2022a). Training and development serves as a way to ensure that employees are not only meeting the business standards, but being supported in their efforts. A specialist in this area deals with organizing new hire orientations, professional development training for current employees, and generally helping employees reach success (Indeed, 2022c). To succeed in this area, a competentspecialist would use employee surveys, manager feedback, and performance data to determine what trainings and programs would be most beneficial (Rockwood, 2022). Careers in this path include Training Coordinator, Learning and Development Specialist, and Director of Training, with a salary range of $40,000-85,000 per year (Indeed, 2024). Common challenges in this line of HR include consistency of training across departments, and demonstrating tangible evidence of training success.Compensation is possibly one of the most important areas of HR management, as it is thesource of an employee’s motivation. A specialist in compensation needs to have a working knowledge of the market, competitive wages, and the business’s budget, as well as an understanding of what benefits may need to be offered to supplement the prospective pay rate (Indeed 2022c). They may also be responsible for ensuring the proper sick or vacation time is processed, or other administrative duties related to payroll (Noe, 2023). Jobs in this career path include Compensation Analyst and Compensation Specialist, with an average salary of $75,000 per year (Indeed, 2022b). Challenges include managing risk and compensating for inflation and pay equity, while maintaining the legal standard according to labor laws (Sammer, 2023).Resources
