Large Intestine, Left/Descending Colon.Received in formalin labeled with the patient name, DOB, MRN, and "descending colon/partial colectomy." It consists of a segment of bowel with 2 stapled resection margins measuring 10.5 cm in length by 2.2 cm in diameter. The resection margins are shaved and submitted en face. The serosa is dusky with yellow-green, matted discoloration throughout and extending onto the mesentery. The bowel is opened longitudinally to reveal gray-tan, edematous and well folded mucosa. A focal area consistent with mucosal outpouching is noted and submitted.
