CYCA 2000Assignment 4: Open Book Test: Units 1-12Question 6: Self ReflectionThe four topics from this course that will resonate with me are self-care, the milieu, The Circle of Courage, and the ecological perspective.Self-care is essential, much like the oxygen mask on an airplane that drops when cabin pressurechanges – if we don't prioritize our own well-being, we won't be able to support others. It also requires being mindful of who we are, what we're doing, and the effect we have on those aroundus.The concept of the milieu will stay with me because I hadn’t fully considered the significance of the environment and atmosphere in influencing individuals and groups. It’s not just a physical space but a combination of elements that create an environment capable of fostering the well-being of children and youth.The Circle of Courage will remain a valuable tool for me, especially when working with Indigenous communities. This model focuses on empowering youth through the core principles of mastery, independence, belonging, and generosity. I will incorporate this into my work due to its foundational role in human development and its effectiveness as an intervention for building resilience.The ecological perspective will also stay with me, as I hadn’t fully grasped how a person’s development is influenced by interconnected systems, from their immediate surroundings to the larger social networks they are part of.
