Leadership Intervention and Team Cohesion: Cynthia Bower's CaseCynthia Bower, a newly appointed team leader, faced resistance to change, a lack of cooperation and loyalty, and hostility from some team members. She appealed to her immediate manager and then to his manager for assistance and support on a number of occasions, but they were either reluctant or unable to help. As a result, Cynthia developed a psychiatric condition and was unable to continue working for the organization. Cynthia's immediate manager could have intervened at a number of pointsto improve team cohesion and prevent her from developing a psychiatric condition.Cynthia's immediate manager had significant opportunities to address the challenges she faced within her team. When Cynthia initially reported insubordinate behavior, her manager should have promptly investigated and communicated the unacceptability of such actions to the involved individuals (Ogbu, 2023). Regrettably, the opportunity was missed, allowing the situation to worsen. According to Hilton et al. (2023), when Cynthia described the adverse effects on her, her manager had a responsibility to protect her from harassment, offering support and counseling and, if necessary, applying disciplinary measures to uphold a safe and respectful workplace. Intervening at these key points could have demonstrated a genuine commitment to the team's well-being, fostering a more positive work environment.Regarding enhancement of the team cohesion, Cynthia's manager could have implemented several proactive measures. One effective approach would have been to convene a team meeting, emphasizing the significance of teamwork and cooperation in achieving the team's objectives. The meeting would have fostered open and honest communication among team members, providing a platform for resolving conflicts constructively and laying the foundation for a more harmonious and productive team dynamic (Ogbu, 2023). Additionally, organizing team-building activities could have strengthened interpersonal bonds and promoted collaboration, fostering trust within the team (Hilton et al., 2023). Lastly, addressing underlying issues causing conflict through candid discussions and collaborative solutions would have contributed to lasting improvements in team dynamics, emphasizing the importance of resolving issues at their source for a more cohesive and effective team.Seizing intervention opportunities is vital for a healthy workplace. Cynthia's manager's missed chances hindered team improvement. Effective communication and problem-solving are pivotal for ongoing harmony.ReferencesHilton, S.
