2Concert Report: Mozart and Beethoven EveningWatching live performances involves going out to watch recorded performances, such as live classical music concerts. On October 5th, 2024, I was fortunate to attend the "Mozart and Beethoven Evening" concert at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Canada. The National Arts Centre Orchestra's evening was conducted by Alexander Shelley, where two giant symphonies were presented. It was an excellent opportunity to pay attention to the instruments' mutual rhythmical relationships, the conductor's initiatory actions and the expressiveness of the classic pieces of music.Musicians and EnsembleStrings, woodwind, brass, and percussion of the National Arts Centre Orchestra, along with a satisfactory technical and aesthetic drive, performed this symphony. Shelley coordinated the musicians very effectively, and the cohesiveness and vigor shown by the musicians over timehelped the audience enjoy the performance from the night. Shelley was an articulate conductor with solid leadership and a natural feeling for musical dynamics that separately and simultaneously gave due outlet to each section while still holding the whole together.RepertoireThe program started with the Mozart's Symphony No. 40 in G minor, K. 550. Composed in 1781, this composition marks an astonishing work of the young, joyful Mozart with a highly dramatic symphony, well known for its power and strength. Some of the features that the orchestra reflected very effectively were tension and pathos, which are characteristic of this score– especially in the string parts. The second half was Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 in A Major, Op 92. Known for the constant changing of motion, this symphony we performed elicited interest with sets of beats and movements in sound intensity. The second most memorable

3movement was based on a grave march with a pronounced accent. The principal theme of the second movement, however, was joyful and danced, thereby submitting the listeners to the cheerful and lively nature of the work again.Musical ObservationsBoth symphonies depicted an exciting melody, harmony, and dynamics. As describing the musicians' concern, Mozart's work implied relatively smooth modulations and intricate polytextural structure, whereas Beethoven's symphony encouraged staccato rhythms and significant dynamic differences. Thus, the developments of woodwinds and strings sections werethe most appealing, enriching the vivid emotions of both pieces.ConclusionWatching a "Mozart/Beethoven Evening" undoubtedly gave me an aesthetic appreciation of these two young talents. Exploring these pieces involved the best performances of the National Arts Centre Orchestra with the keen direction of Alexander Shelley. This concert questioned how live classical music could influence its performers and listeners in modern society.ReferenceNational Arts Centre. (2024). Where wonders unfold.
