1.Dravidian speakers are late comers into Sri Lanka.False2.Generally speaking, most of the literature of Indian Buddhism that we have is stillpreserved in its Sanskrit original.False3.As it is a religion of peace, no wars have been fought in the name of Buddhism.True4.Dravidian is primarilyThe name of a language family….5.The Buddhist relationship with royal power in India can be characterized mostly as one ofUnsuccessful wooing6.The diffusion of Theravāda Buddhism from Sri Lanka to South East Asia can be best understood as a development made possible byThe political importance of Buddhism in sri lanka7.Please talk about the linguistic and religious divides of Sri Lanka and how they have shaped also the religious map of Sri Lanka. Please make reference to the Great Chronicle. The language of the Norhthern Sri Lanka was a dravidian language more specifically Tamil. In Sri Lanka Buddhism became the religion of the state. The religious map of Sri Lanka indicates that Buddhism is the religion of the state. There are a lot of Buddhist evidence present in Sri Lanka that indicates the early existence of Buddhism.8.Why do you think Indian kings towards the end of the second urbanization and the feudal period tended to favour Hinduism more than Buddhism? The reason of Indian kings preferring Hinduism over Buddhism could be due to Buddhism being to popular back in the day meaning that even the lower-class people were a part of Buddhist Religion. This may have made the Indian kings neglect Buddhism and give more preference to Buddhism. Another reason could be that the religion Buddhism can be a bit too extreme for the lifestyle of kings would have lived in, as in Buddhism all of your time is spent by performing Buddhist practices.9.Please sketch out why the Pāli language and its body of literature are important in the history of Buddhism. The language Pali is important in the history of Buddhism is because the Theravada school suggests that Pali is the original language of Buddha, in which Buddha taught his teachings, like fascination. Pali is prakrit in ancient vernacular language. The Theravadins of the threvada school have done a great job in preserving their secret texts like the three baskets. Pali claims to be an ancient language of people.

10. What can you collect regarding the state of affairs of caste and ethnicity in Buddhist Sri Lanka regarding the excerpt of the Great Chronicle? In Sri Lanka Buddhism became the religion of the state which is a true clear anticipation. As we know that the Indian kings did not prefer Buddhism, but the kings of Sri Lanka would have preferred Buddhism. This tells us that in Sri Lanka Buddhismwas the main prior dominant culture, it did not what caste the person belonged from. 11. Please locate the statement "Buddhism is not a religion but a philosophy' in its historical context: who said it, why, how, when? The statement Buddhism is not a religion but a philosophy was said by an early European scholar, the reason is because the Theravada monastic code venaya this monastic code that regulates monastic behavior is unique among that it doesn't have rules regulating the worship of stupa. The European scholar said it around 19thcentury.12. Please paste here your report of the virtual visit to the Dambulla caves. Please make sure to incorporate the content of the module into your observations. The first thing I saw in Dambulla cave I was those huge monuments of Buddha as theywere placed against the walls. The monuments of Buddha are very similar to each other. This whole setting of the cave seemed to be like the debate we have learned about in pervious module as there is a buddha shrine in the centre and rest of the Buddhas are sitting around. This cave have a lot similarities with the ajanta caves as the walls of both caves were painted with wide range of colour making different forms of Buddha. A difference is that the ajanta cave was not really well maintained meaningthat ajanta cave is very well maintained and clean for its time. The second Dambulla cave is very similar to Dambulla cave I as it is also well maintained, clean and there are Buddha monuments all around the cave. A difference I saw between the both cavesis that Cave II seemed to have more monuments of a female rather than cave I having more male monuments, which I believe that this might be done due to a certain reason.Another thing I realized that this cave is in Sri Lanka and in Sri Lanka Buddhism was the religion of the state back in the day which tells me that due this reason why the monuments and cave seems to be cleaner and more well-maintained. Overall, visualizing both of these caves seemed very realist and amazing to see. 13. Pāli was probably not the language the Buddha spoke. Why then are Pāli and the Pāli texts so important for the history of Buddhism? The texts are so important because the Buddhist practices were translated in many languages back in the day so the Buddhist practices would have also been translated in Pali, so this tells us that Pali which is an ancient language has the teachings of the Buddha. Due to this reason the Pali texts are important for the history of Buddhism.
