It is referred to as “The Land of Promise”.It is the second largest (after Luzon) located at the southernmost island in the Philippine archipelago. It produced a unique Filipino artistic tradition as a result of animism and Islamic religion fused together. Lesson 1: Clothing of the Bagobo, T’boli, Maranao and Yakan Tribes. What is Bagobo? Lang Dulay is a Filipino traditional weaver who was a recipient of the national living treasures award, she was created a traditional T’nalak weaving a fabric made from refined abaca fiber. A recipient of the award is a Filipino citizen whose distinctive skills have been artistic excellence and have been passed on to and widely practiced by the present generations in their community with the same degree of technical and artistic competence. The history of Malong is when Magellan conquest of the Philippines in 1521, through his chronicler Antonio Pigafetta, already noted imported weavings from India and were already valued as part of the international trade especially in the southern Philippines.
