21.Peace and Order presupposes faithfulness to one's task and to the fulfillment of the duties and responsibilities it entails. What is your task at school/workplace? What duties and responsibilities does it entail? Do you faithfully and efficiently fulfill them?As a part-time hospitality management instructor teaching laboratory subjects, my primary task in the school setting is to effectively impart practical knowledge and skills to students pursuing careers in the hospitality industry. This entails several responsibilities:1.Lesson planning and curriculum development: Preparing well-structured lesson plans, designing practical exercises, and ensuring the course content aligns with industry standards and best practices.2.Hands-on instruction: Demonstrating techniques, guiding students through practical applications, and providing them with opportunities to practice and master essential skills.3.Assessment and evaluation: Fairly assessing students' performance, providing constructive feedback, and ensuring they meet the required competencies.4.Classroom management: Maintaining a safe, organized, and conducive learning environment in the laboratory setting.5.Professional development: Continuously updating your knowledge and skills to reflect the latest trends and advancements in the hospitality industry. As a full-time business owner baking and decorating cakes, my primary task is to manage and operate a successful cake business. This involves several responsibilities:1.Product development and quality control: Creating innovative and visually appealing cake designs, ensuring consistent quality, and maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene.2.Customer service: Effectively communicating with clients, understanding their needs and preferences, and providing exceptional customer service.3.Operations management: Overseeing the day-to-day operations, managing inventory, supervising staff, and ensuring efficient production processes.4.Marketing and sales: Promoting your business, building a brand identity, and securing a steady stream of orders and clientele.5.Financial management: Handling invoicing, budgeting, and maintaining financial records for the business.6.Compliance: Adhering to relevant regulations, obtaining necessary licenses and permits, and ensuring the business operates legally and ethically. To faithfully and efficiently fulfill these duties and responsibilities, it is crucial to approach each task with dedication, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence. Effective time management, multitasking abilities, and a passion for both teaching and your cake business are essential. Continuously seeking opportunities for professional growth, staying up to date with industry trends, and consistently delivering high-quality work are also vital components of fulfilling my responsibilities efficiently and faithfully.
32."Order" according to saint Augustine, is a principle in accordance to which all things created by God are moved to their ends (De ord. 1, 20, 28) what goals do you set for yourselves, your family and loved ones? What is your goal in life? What do you think, is the purpose of your job at school/workplace? What concrete means do you take to reach your goals? My Personal and Family Goals:Provide a stable and loving home environment for my familyEnsure my daughter receive a good education and have opportunities to pursue her interestsMaintain strong bonds and open communication within the familyPlan quality time together through family activities, vacations, etc.Secure my family's financial future through savings, investments, etc.The Purpose of my Jobs:As a hospitality instructor, my purpose is to equip students with the practical skills and knowledge needed to excel in the industry, enabling them to build rewarding careers. As a cake business owner, my purpose is to bring joy and delight to people through your creative baked goods, allowing them to celebrate special occasions in a meaningful way.Ultimately, both roles contribute to my overarching goal of providing a comfortable life for your family.Concrete Means to Reach my Goals:Continually enhance my baking skills and business acumen through courses, workshops, etc.Maintain a strong work ethic and dedication in both rolesEffectively manage my time and responsibilities across both jobsRegularly assess and adapt my business strategies for growthBuild a solid client base and reputation for my cake businessNetwork within the hospitality industry for potential opportunitiesPrioritize work-life balance to avoid burnout and maintain family time3.Saint Augustine also defines "order" as the "arrangement of equal and unequal things that assigns to each its proper place" (De civ. Dei 19, 13, 1) we do not expect everybody at school/workplace to perform the same task, we rather have different jobs to fulfill. In what way does your job at school/workplace contribute? To the over-all good functioning of the institution? Does your present job correspond with our capacities and preparation? Are you enjoying it or would you rather have different job?As a part-time hospitality management instructor and a full-time cake business owner, my roles contribute to the overall functioning of the respective institutions in distinct ways.In the academic setting, my role as an instructor directly supports the educational mission of the school. By imparting practical knowledge and skills to students, I am equipping them with the competencies required to succeed in the hospitality industry. This not only benefits
4the individual students but also contributes to producing well-trained professionals who can uphold the standards and reputation of the industry as a whole.Furthermore, through curriculum development and staying updated with industry trends, I help ensure that the educational programs remain relevant and aligned with current best practices. This supports the school's ability to provide quality education and maintain its credibility within the field. In my cake business, I contribute to the local economy and community by offering unique and creative baked goods. By delivering high-quality products and exceptional customer service, I aim to build a positive reputation for my business, which in turn reflects well on the overall market and industry. Moreover, as a small business owner, I provide employment opportunities (even if currently limited) and contribute to the diversity and vibrancy of the local entrepreneurial landscape. Both roles correspond well with my capacities and preparation. My educational background and practical experience in the hospitality industry have equipped me with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively teach and guide students. Simultaneously, my passion for baking and entrepreneurial spirit have enabled me to establish and grow a successful cake business. While I am currently enjoying both of my jobs, I remain open to new opportunities that align with my interests, values, and long-term goals. Continuous growth, learning, and exploring new avenues are essential for personal and professional fulfillment.4.Order implies beauty, which consist in "preserving symmetry and proportion in all its (sc. The body's) members" (De civ. Dei 22, 20). Is there a healthy relationship between you and the other teaching and non-teaching personnel of the school/workplace? Do you allow an unhealthy sense of competition or rivalry to set it once in awhile? Do you help one another to fulfill your duties efficiently? Do you come to aid of those in need of assistance? I get along well with my colleagues, and I help them as much as I can. I maintain a healthy and cooperative relationship with the other teaching and non-teaching personnel at both my workplaces. I do not allow an unhealthy sense of competition or rivalry to set in. Instead, we help one another fulfill our duties efficiently. If someone is in need of assistance, I come to their aid.Fostering a sense of teamwork and mutual support is essential for preserving order, balance, and overall efficiency within any institution. By getting along well with my co-workers and offering assistance whenever needed, I exemplify the principles of symmetry and proportion that Saint Augustine highlights. A collaborative environment where everyone works harmoniously towards common goals enhances productivity and cultivates a sense of beauty and order in the workplace dynamic.
5My willingness to help others fulfill their duties efficiently demonstrates my commitment to the greater good of the institutions I serve. Rather than allowing unhealthy competition or rivalry, I prioritize collective success over individual gain. This mindset promotes a cohesive and supportive work culture, benefiting the students, customers, and the overall functioning of the school and my business. Moreover, by coming to the aid of those in need, I contribute to maintaining a balanced and well-functioning system. When colleagues support one another, it mitigates potential disruptions or breakdowns in operations, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and goals achieved seamlessly. This spirit of cooperation and camaraderie fosters a positive work environment and serves as an example for others. It demonstrates that true order and beauty stem from harmonious relationships and the willingness to work together towards a common purpose.I will continue nurturing these healthy relationships and extending a helping hand whenever needed, playing a crucial role in upholding the principles of order, symmetry, and beauty within my professional spheres.5. Order brings about peace. Saint Augustine speaks of different areas in human life where peace and order may exist-peace of the soul, peace of the body, peace between man and GOD, peace between man and man, and so forth. In what area in your life do you best experience peace? Can you consider your self at peace with the people who work with you at school/workplace? How do you deal with disrupted interpersonal relationship? Here is how you can respond in the first person:I experience the deepest sense of peace within my soul and in my relationship with God. Having a strong spiritual foundation and faith provides me with an inner calmness and serenity that transcends external circumstances. In terms of interpersonal relationships, I would consider myself largely at peace with the people I work with at both my workplaces - the school and my cake business. I make a conscious effort to maintain positive and harmonious relationships with my colleagues. We support each other, communicate openly, and work collaboratively towards shared goals. However, interpersonal dynamics can sometimes become disrupted due to misunderstandings, conflicting priorities, or personality clashes. When such situations arise, I try to approach them with empathy, patience, and a willingness to listen and understand different perspectives. I believe that open and respectful communication is key to resolving conflicts and restoring peace in relationships. If a disruption occurs, I first reflect on my own role and try to identify any potential misunderstandings or areas where I could have handled things better. I then seek to have a candid yet constructive conversation with the other party, focusing on finding common ground and mutually agreeable solutions. I avoid accusatory language and instead strive to understand their point of view.
6In cases where tensions persist despite my efforts, I do not hesitate to involve a neutral third party or seek guidance from a respected colleague or mentor. Sometimes, an outside perspective can help untangle complex interpersonal issues and facilitate reconciliation.Ultimately, I believe that maintaining peace in relationships requires consistent effort, emotional intelligence, and a genuine desire to foster understanding and cooperation. By approaching conflicts with wisdom, humility, and a commitment to resolving them constructively, I aim to preserve the order and harmony that are essential for a productive and fulfilling work environment.6.Being at peace with God also enables us to be at peace with ourselves and, therefore, with the people around us. Anger is manifestation of lack of inner peace. Do you get angry at work? What is is that makes you angry with your work and the people around you? Do you sometimes experience being angry with the administration? what about getting angry with your colleague or co-faculty member? Have you experienced being angry with other personnel at school/workplace? What do you do when you are angry? How do you deal with your anger? Eventually, what steps do you take to restore peace and harmony with the people you got angry with?I try my best to maintain inner peace, but I'm human, and there are times when I do experience anger at work. A few things that can trigger anger for me include unreasonable demands or expectations, disrespectful behavior from others, or situations where I feel I'm being treated unfairly. Occasionally, I may get frustrated with decisions made by the administration if I disagree with them or feel they are counterproductive. However, I understand that they have a broader perspective, and I try to approach any concerns respectfully.More often, anger arises from interpersonal conflicts with colleagues or co-faculty members. Miscommunications, differing work styles, or perceived lack of support can sometimes lead to tensions and frustrations bubbling over into anger. When I feel angry in a professional setting, my first step is to try to remove myself from the situation, if possible, to avoid saying or doing something I may regret. I take a few deep breaths and give myself time to calm down before addressing the issue rationally. If the anger persists, I carefully examine my thoughts and emotions to understand the root cause better. Is this a deeper, long-standing issue? Am I feeling disrespected or unappreciated? Or is it simply a momentary lapse in patience? Self-reflection helps me gain clarity.Once I have a clearer perspective, I try to have an open and honest conversation with the person or people involved. I express my concerns calmly and respectfully, focusing on finding a resolution rather than assigning blame. Listening to their side is crucial, as there may be misunderstandings or perspectives I haven't considered. If the conflict persists despite these efforts, I may seek guidance from a neutral third party, such as a mentor or counselor, to help facilitate a resolution.
7Ultimately, restoring peace and harmony requires a willingness to let go of anger and resentment. I make a conscious effort to forgive, both for my own inner peace and to repair the relationship. Sometimes, this may involve acknowledging my role in the conflict and offering a sincere apology.I firmly believe that holding onto anger only breeds more negativity and disrupts the order and harmony essential for a productive work environment. By actively working to manage my emotions, communicate effectively, and seek resolutions, I aim to maintain peace within myself and with those around me.
