Identify at least one key learning from your Skills Lab experience. Explain the skills you showcased during the Skills Lab Intensive experience and what you considered in your response to the scenario you faced in Day 3 Session 3. The skills lab was an informal experience, and I was uncertain about what to anticipate. During the skills lab, I learned the importance of actively listening to the client and posing open-ended questions, while refraining from uncritically endorsing all their emotions. The role play constituted an excellent experience. My scenario involved offering encouragement as a therapist to a hospice client who was questioning their worth. I demonstrated active listening by recognizing the client's emotions. I offered feedback focused on the client's strengths and their support system. I exerted maximum effort in this instance despite lacking experience in this domain. Upon hearing feedback, I became cognizant of how I projected my emotions onto the client. I misled by asserting, "You should feel this way," rather than permitting the client to experience her emotions freely and subsequently offering encouragement to improve the situation. How did this demonstration show you are ready to enter your field experience? I entered the skills lab initially apprehensively. However, I gained greater confidence in directing a session with a client. The above demonstration provided guidance on navigating a counseling session, identifying key points spoken by clients, and reiterating them effectively. The case studies prepared me for expectations in the social work field. It is essential to assure your client that you are attentively listening and are committed to providing exceptional assistance. Explain how you will incorporate these learnings into your Field Education experience. To maintain cultural awareness, I will dedicate time to educate myself about the demographic of my placement facility. Additionally participating in seminars that offer current and comprehensive instruction. Engagement in this course has equipped me with a robust basis for forthcoming field education experiences. The academic information and practical skills I have acquired will be valuable in
any social work environment. I possess an enhanced comprehension of the social work process, encompassing assessment, intervention, and evaluation. This will guide my strategy for future field education experiences, enhancing my effectiveness and efficiency.
