Posta 2- to 3-paragraph response to the following prompts:●From theAbout MoADpage in the Resources, click on the LEARN column. Select“Learn with MoAD,” and scroll down, to find the exhibit:Exploring Color and William H.Johnson’s Paintings.Click on “View Lesson Plan” and then open the OBJECTIVESsection. There you will find the work by Johnson.●Choose one piece of art from the William H. Johnson exhibit. Describe it.●How does this piece of art represent the concepts of diaspora and accretion? The painting I chose was “Portrait with sunflowers” by. William H. Johnson. This painting wascreated in 1944 with oil on a paperboard (MoAD, n.d). In the painting we can see that the artistdrew an African American woman. She is the center of attention as she is sitting in the middleon a wooden chair. The main theme focuses on sunflowers as they are everywhere in thepainting. For example, the woman is wearing a dress that is full of many sunflowers. Next to herthere is a vase with sunflowers as well. When I first saw this painting I immediately thought about love, positivity, strength, andenlightenment. This is because when I think of flowers I think of love or support. The walls thatare both light blue and light green set a warm mood such as relaxation. The woman looks verycalm and relaxed as she is sitting down with her hands in her lap. Overall, this painting isbeautiful and powerful because of the details such as the colors, flowers, and how the woman isportrayed. This piece of art represents the concept of diaspora because we can see in the background thetwo walls are divided using two different colors. This may represent separation where peoplethat come from different backgrounds spread and move in from their own homeland. Diasporasignifies people moving or spreading from their native homeland. This painting shows accretionrepresenting growth and positivity using a specific culture. For example, this artist portrayed anAfrican American woman and represented her as positive, strong, and growing. Also, thedifferent colors and shapes used in the painting signified positivity and growth.Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD). (n.d.).About MoAD.https://www.moadsf.org/about
