Choice Point 9a: Joining a Group
Question 1 of 2
What was your first answer choice?
____ A
__X__B
____C
Explain why you made that choice:
I chose this answer choice because it seemed the politest and because option C
didn’t make an effort on getting into the conversation.
Question 2 of 2
Trying to be polite and waiting to be invited to join a signing group can result in an
undesired reaction from Deaf people.
For example, situating yourself close-by but away from the signing group could give
Deaf people the unintended impression that you are not really interested in interacting
with them.
It takes confidence to ask to join a group of signers.
Do you think you are assertive and confident enough to do that at gatherings such as
Deaf coffee night or other social events geared toward all levels of signers?
It would definitely take some getting used to but I believe that I could do that.
