ECE 424 (524) - Radio System Design Homework 6 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering NC State University Your solution should be submitted to moodle 1)A transmitter system has an efficiency of 12% at 8dB back off and consumes 0.65A from a 5V DC power supply. Calculate the RF power output at 8dB back off, as well as the maximum RF power the transmitter can output. 2)A transmitter outputs 30dBm RF power and has an efficiency of 60%. How much DC power can we save if we could increase its efficiency to 75% while still outputting 30dBm RF power? 3) A radio link operating at 10GHz is upgraded to 20GHz without changing the antenna. If by this upgrade the transmitted power drops by a factor of 2, how much will the received signal power be affected? Assume the antennas are horn antennas, which can support both frequencies. After the change in frequency, will the receive power be more or less? By how much will it be more or less? 4) What is the maximum capacity of a noiseless receiver with a maximum signal level of 1V and ΔV=0.2V over a bandwidth of 125KHz? (Assume a Hartley Capacity Model). 5) How much should the transmitted power in a system be increased to double its maximum capacity? Assume the current SNR is 7dB and a Shannon capacity model. It may be helpful to approximate (1+SNR) as SNR in your calculations.
