3PREFACEFirst of all, I would like to praise and thank to Allah SWT for giving us strength and blessing to finally manage to accomplish this report. Without his blessing, I won’t get to finish my work. We thank God for all the opportunities, trials, and strengths that have been shown by our group members to complete the assignment. Our humblest gratitude goes to the holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), whose way of life has been a great example for us.Therefore, we would like to acknowledge and give thanks to our lecturer, Madam Nazhatul, because without her guidance, this assignment cannot be done properly. They always give us support and guidance on how to do our assignment. Thank you for your understanding and patience, and most importantly, for providing positive encouragement and a warm spirit for us to finish this assignment. It has been a great pleasure and honour to have them as our lecturers.Lastly, we would like to express our gratitude to University Technology Mara (UITM). Campus Seri Iskandar for giving me the opportunity to conduct this writing assignment. Our deepest gratitude goes to all our family members. Because it would not be possible to complete the assignment without their support. We are also grateful to them for their spiritual support throughout our lives when we have faced difficulties.
4Details of Building Selected The selected building that we decided to choose for this assignment was Language and Computer Lab's (MAPS) which was near to Annex 1, FSPU and also near to Annex 3, FSPU. The selected building located at University Technology Mara, UiTM Perak Branch, Seri Iskandar Campus, 32600 Bota, Perak Darul Ridzuan. The land area of UiTM Seri Iskandar, Perak are almost reached 392.36 acres in the middle of Perak Tengah. The reason why we decided to choose the building for this assignment is because the building itself has numerous building elements and it is also much smaller than another building in UiTM Seri Iskandar. Language and Computer Lab's, (MAPS) are built with a variety of element, such as different kinds of doors, window and staircase. In conclusion, we selected the Language and Computer Lab's (MAPS) as our study area.
53.4 WINDOWA window is a hole cut out of a wall or roof that lets light in through a translucent or transparent substance. Additionally, windows play a significant role in the controlled natural ventilation of buildings and greatly enhance their aesthetic appeal. Ventilated barriers are placed at wall openings to allow light, air and a view of the outside into the building. The aesthetic attractiveness of the building is also enhanced by the windows. Based on their placement, composition, and purpose, windows come in a huge variety of styles.Based on what we observed in the Language and Computer Lab (MAPS) building, there are three main types of windows used throughout this building, namely awning windows, casement windows, and transom windows. As we know these three types of windows are usually found in every type of building.
6-MATERIAL AND FINISHES WINDOWWindows are a crucial part of the building envelope in construction because they allow for natural lighting, ventilation, and views of the outside. The types of materials used for windows might differ depending on the price, functionality, beauty, and energy efficiency. Here are some examples of the numerous window kinds and materials used in construction, including awning windows made of wood, PVC, aluminium, steel, and composite. Casement windows can also be made of the same material. Transom windows can also be made of leaded glass, sheet glass, stained glass, acrylic, fibreglass, and other materials1)Awning WindowsAwning windows open outward and are hinged at the top. They often open up to 45 degrees from the bottom, letting air freely circulate while offering a special rain barrier and coming with an easily detachable screen. They are typically broader than they are tall.ADVANTAGES OF AWNING WINDOWSBetter VentilationMoisture ProtectionCreate A Modern LockEnvironmentally ConsciousVersatilityDISADVANTAGES OF AWNING WINDOWSHigh Traffic HazardRequire frequent washingDifficult Escape Route
7Overall, awning windows provide an excellent combination of functionality, security, energy efficiency, and aesthetic appeal. Their unique design and numerous benefits make them a compelling choice for those seeking quality windows for their buildings or commercial spaces.2)Casement WindowsA casement window is a style of window that swings open inward or outward thanks to a side hinge on the window frame. A casement window's frame is connected to it by one or more hinges.ADVANTAGES OF CASEMENT WINDOWSEnergy EfficiencyGreat for Natural VentilationEasy WashingNatural LightDISADVANTAGES OF CASEMENT WINDOWSBreak-In PossibilityExpensiveLimited sizing Difficult To Install
8I've come to the conclusion that casement windows offer an excellent compromise between outstanding ventilation, unobstructed views, energy efficiency, security, versatility, and ease of maintenance. Due to their timeless appeal and practical advantages, they are a popular choice for consumers searching for both aesthetics and function in their window selections.
93)Transom WindowsA transom is a horizontal beam that is paired with a mullion that divides a window's upper part into additional lights. When transoms are positioned, generally they will be placed above head height to avoid obstructing the view from a window.ADVANTAGES OF TRANSOM WINDOWSNatural SunlightEnvironmentally FriendlyPrivacyAccent WindowsDISADVANTAGES OD TRANSOM WINDOWSHeat GainNo VentilationHard To CleanMaintenanceIn overall, transom windows provide a range of advantages, such as more natural light, architectural enhancement, ventilation, privacy, aesthetic alternatives, energy efficiency, and low maintenance. They are aesthetically pleasing options that may blend with a variety of architectural types because to their unusual positioning and form.
10-METHOD OF CONSTRUCTIONSTRUCTURE- The building's structure may have an impact on the window style and material selection. We will examine a modern installation of mixed wood and aluminium windows inside a brick cavity wall. However, a similar method might also be used to install a PVC or wood window.EXTERNAL SILL- To help drain water that strikes a window, a sill is required at the foot of the window. The sill should protrude at least 45 mm past the face of the wall below.HEAD- A lintel must support the brickwork or blockwork at the top of an opening. Popular lintels are made of steel section. Lintels that have been thermally fractured or insulated with expanded polystyrene (EPS) aid to further reduce thermal bridging. The inner and outer leaves of masonry can alternatively be made of concrete lintels, however if render is not utilised, these will be visible from the outside.CAVITY CLOSERSThis is a need to stop the spread of fire in the absence of a suitable non-combustible insulation filling the space entirely. In the insulating zone while building a typical masonry cavity construction, window sets should be placed. The window needs to be secured to the
11structure. Usually, installation straps made of mild steel galvanised and secured to the blockwork are employed for this. To prevent thermabridging and keep the window attached to the building, these are fixed at regular intervals.1)Determine What Types of Windows Will Be Used.-The windows' type is defined by the structure of the building and its surroundings in order to maximise the utility of the windows that will be placed. Utilising the right
12windows can increase natural light, improve ventilation, and enhance the structure's looks.2)Measuring The Windows-Window measurements are always expressed as Width by Height. For accuracy, take measurements at least three times along each axis (top, middle, bottom, left, right, and centre). When all three widths have been attained, take the narrowest point and subtract a 1/2 inch to get the width and height. The window will have a 1/4-inch gap between it and the opening as a result.example how to measure.3)Preparing The Installation Site
13-Any obstructions to window installation, such as debris, dust, nails, or other objects, should be cleaned or removed. For the window to fit properly during installation, this procedure is crucial.4)Installing The Windows and Frames-Window frames are installed similarly to door frames (see Door Frames section). If a window frame isn't set properly, the casement will create a lever with the edge of the wall and won't be able to open flat to the wall. As a result, if the window is blown open by the wind, the hinges may be driven out.Window frames can be put in place either as the walls are being built or after they are finished. Next, to function properly, a newly installed window needs to be level, square, and plumb. Plumb and square windows must be installed levelly to allow for proper drainage of their weeping systems, especially when it comes to moveable windows like hanging windows and casements. Install a few screws into the building structures along one of the window's sides while keeping the window centred in the opening. After confirming that the newly installed window is still level and plumb, insert a few screws into the other side of the frame.
145)Sealing the window with foam-After the window is installed, the opening between the window and the opening should be sealed with low-expansion foam. It is important to utilise high-quality materials because it is the foam that will prevent air leakage. Insulation around doors and windows helps to keep interior temperatures stable while also improving energy efficiency and long-term cost savings. Compared to conventional insulation, this spray foam insulation provides better insulation.

21CONCLUSIONWe've learned a lot from the processes used in building construction for organising and measuring plans for walls, floors, doors, windows, roofs and staircases. We have employed the proper levelling processes in order to accurately design or construct the building structures or sections. We are also able to fix errors or weaknesses in the procedure or phase that comes after the one that is already available. We can also learn how to carry out chores correctly and neatly. Additionally, it can influence the different finishes depending on the building structure the client requests. When the client is satisfied because the project meets his expectations, finishes are essential to the project's successful conclusion. As a result, it can more accurately and thoroughly detect the precise material of the building structure. There are numerous materials on the market, all of which can be chosen based on the requirements of the structure. A building can stand majestically and last for a very long time by utilising the correct material. Materials are therefore essential in avoiding anything that the employer or contractor does not want to happen. It's also true that measured drawings can provide more precise information, such as the size or dimension of an element. Finally, as a result of this lesson or activity, we now possess new knowledge on building construction.
