In 1814, Governor Lachlan Macquarie approved an offer by William Cox to build a road crossing the Blue Mountains, from Emu Plains, the existing road terminus west of Sydney, to the Bathurst Plains. At the age of 21 (1786), Mary was then founded guilty of assaulting a single woman and stealing a silk Bonnet off her. Because of this crime Mary was then sentenced to death.
