Oak trees have a very long and diverse history. Oak wood is very unique and valuable. Wood has been around for about four hundred million years. The oak tree is a part of the Fagceae family, the Quercus kingdom, the Fagales order, and the Plantae kingdom. There are approximately six hundred different species of oak trees. Northern Oak, White Oak, Black Oak, and Chestnut Oak are just a few examples of the many different species of oak trees. Some oak trees only grow to be shrubs. Others grow to be
In this experiment, we observed the relationship between the number of domatia, the number of mites and the size of leaves of water oaks (Quercus nigra L.) and sweet gum (Liquidambar styraciflua). Domatia are small chambers often located on the lower surface of leaves that serve as homes for predaceous mites. In return, the mites protect the plant from herbivory and pathogen attack. This type of interaction between plants and mites is a form of mutualism, more specifically facultative mutualism.
In 1934, after Prohibition ended, my Mom’s family opened a bourbon distillery called Heaven Hill. Five brothers, one of whom was my great-grandfather Gary, created this flourishing company in Bardstown, Kentucky. They started just making and selling bourbon, but today, it is a successful business that has grown into a worldwide company selling many kinds of adult beverages. Although my great-grandfather and his brothers no longer operate the distillery, it is still a family business that is run
The plants in Tennessee were based in almost the middle of nowhere. The land had to be procured from farmers before building the worksites and the new town where the workers would live: Oak Ridge. When this new town was built on its swampy footing, it was a total secret. The rest of the world had no clue that Oak Ridge, Tennessee existed, and those working there couldn’t
Oak Hills facility is a manufacturing unit under TOGS which provides upstream services to public and the government owned energy companies. It produces test equipment used in Exploration and Extraction unit (E & E). As there have been rumours that a wave of mergers and acquisitions has taken place within the oil and gas industry, Oak Hills has been one of the primary target of their main headquarters competitor, Pasadena Services. Thus a project team has been tasked to assist in the improvement of
1. What are the specific quality problems Oak Hills is facing, and how will they influence the company’s ability to convert to a lean system? Oak Hills is facing a couple specific quality problems. One that stood out to me was that the inventory holding cost were pretty high and that the turnover is only 5 times a year. With the delivery costs also being high and having a lot of overtime pay are other costs that effect the quickness of orders. This makes the customer upset which trickles into the
After interning at Oak Street Health for seven weeks, I found that I have many strengths that can play important roles in my future career success. First, my personality as an organized person allows me to plan and complete tasks quickly while collaborating with other individuals. I am good at getting job done, being flexible to new ideas and respecting other people and their culture. For example, I have set deadlines to initiate, implement, and review a patient engagement survey I conducted. I think
tree we sampled for this experiment was a type of oak tree. In general most oaks tree pH levels should be between 3.6 and 7.0. These trees are normally best where the summers are dry and the winters are wet. As there are a wide variety of oak trees, different oak trees adapt to many different range of temperatures. Though most oak trees range from a temperature from around 45 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. We tested the pH levels of the soil where our oak tree was growing. The soil had a pH level of 6
When people are not aware of where their energy comes from, it threatens their values and ideals. Aldo Leopold discusses these dangers in his essay, Good Oak, suggesting solutions to prevent them and improve the environment in the process. Energy powers many of the things key to life. As pollution and environmental destruction become a more imminent threat, humans must control their use of energy, preferably making sure not to use more than is necessary to sustain them. People who do not fully control
Pacific Oaks College culture and pedagogy encompasses several elements that strongly appeal to me. This investigation will seek to answer the question: To what extent were women in Oak Ridge, Tennessee significant to the Manhattan Project during the second world war? This investigation will examine how the urgency and persistent demand to complete the Manhattan Project, allowed women to integrate into the male-dominated workplace and thus the scope of this investigation is limited to the role of women during the development of the Manhattan project. The two sources that were selected for a detailed
Good Bye? “There we laid her to rest in a dark oak coffin in her final spot.” My Dad told me as I snuggled up in my fluffy pillows, trying to sleep, until I remembered… The dark oak coffin just like the wood of my bed frame. Being 13 years old never helped either, watching the coffin being lowered down into the grave and being covered with dirt was like being shot in the stomach. I will never forget that. Dad said, “We laid purple lilies, her favorite flowers, by her grave as we said our last
“Songs of all songs” Raphael maintained harmony and balance, looking at life through harmonic relationships. History Transformed Into Art Vibrant. An array of colors woven onto a blank canvas as a fine needle pierces in and out of the sheet. Bringing to life the impressions of the creator; leaving its imprint with every stitch. The outcome, a labyrinthine pattern used to form the overall design, capturing the essence of the weaver. The beginning of quilting has dated back to hundreds of years ago. It’s unique designs and patterns have evolved throughout the years to encompass one’s cultural views, beliefs
I would not recommend building a Walmart in Thousand Oaks. Thousand Oaks was ranked the 4th safest city in the US by the FBI in 2013. Walmart is known for attracting the wrong crowd, which usually comes in tow with the escalation of crime rates. Risking the reputation of a safe city for low prices just doesn’t seem worth it. People who choose to live in wealthy places sacrifice high prices for safety and peace of mind. They have the money to pay for overpriced produce. High prices mostly drive

A Very Short Story Ernest Hemingway is considered one of the most significant fiction writers of the 20th century. He is famous for his specific style of writing, the so called iceberg theory, which is clearly seen in his short stories and novels. Undoubtedly the unique thing that makes his short stories so special is the fact that after you read them you get the main idea but there are many things that remain unspoken or have a deeper meaning. You have to reread the text and use your imagination
Though Fred Wilson specializes in creating works of art that represent his perception of American history and American society as a whole, Wilson’s Drip Drop Plop came into creation as a representation, primarily, of Americas repetitive racial history against African Americans. When Fred Wilson was asked to be the American representative at the Venice Biennale, Wilson thought that it would be best to incorporate glass unto his work, something that Venice is well familiarized with, taking in mind
