Steve Jobs, an American entrepreneur, business magnate, inventor, and industrial designer, offered a speech at Stanford University to recently graduated students. During his speech, Steve Jobs shares personal experiences, in which, he successfully uses emotional appeals to demonstrate why we must enjoy our life doing what we love. However, his argument that the only way you are going to succeed and feel satisfied is if you love your work makes his reliability questionable, therefore he ethically fails. Jobs explains how at his young age of 20, he began the company Apple, now one of the biggest companies in the US valuated in over $700 billion dollars, in his parent’s garage which had such success that in only 10 years the company grew and became into a 2 billion dollars company

It is Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple Co, NeXT, and Pixar, whose ideas change the world in which we live in today. This requires a leader. A leader is the one who pushes the employees boundaries to bring out the best in them, which is basically boosting up the company altogether. Not only does he look for benefits of the company, but also maintains a strong bond with them formally as well as informally.

Steve Jobs was one of the few people who dared to think differently. In his biography Steve Jobs, Walter Isaacson presented to his readers how Jobs was able to pair creativity with technology in a way that had never been done before. Jobs held a strong passion for his projects, and was determined to present the best possible version of technology to the public. It was because of his driven personality and persistence that his inventions were able to make an impact on the world forever.

In 2005, Steve Jobs gave the commencement at Stanford University’s graduation ceremony. Just a year before the speech, he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer (Peña). Jobs used the speech as an opportunity to inspire the students to, in a way, follow in his footsteps. When speaking to other human beings from time to time and wanting to move them to act or think in a certain way which is to persuade, you will have to manage wisely the magic of pathos, something that further on I will demonstrate within two great commencement speeches. Simply, if you want to persuade, you have to connect. For a greater impact you will have to engage more with your listeners. No matter if the audience is hundreds or thousands; the greatness of pathos always work. For example: smokers do not quit when they read statistics about lung cancer; mostly they quit when a close person invites them to.
