The Mexican-American War occurred between 1846 and 1848 in Texas. The War took place between the area of the Rio Grande and Nueces River. This prohibited further Americans immigrating into Texas & made slaves illegal. Americans undoubtedly stopped following said Mexican laws. Americans of course continued to cross the border illegally, and also brought their slaves. The call for independence caused a rebellion, the battle at the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto both took place in this war. The American President was James Polk and the Mexican Dictator at the time was Santa Ana. At the battle of The Alamo Santa Ana's army succeeded in late 1836. Santa Ana’s 4000 men sieged in San Antonio. The 200 Texan defenders retreated to the Alamo. After
