Chapter 3- Analysis of Character Trait, recklessness Grace has had a problem with being very reckless. Throughout the book, you will see examples of Grace acting without thinking, and usually getting in trouble after. Most of the recklessness had to do with catching the scarred man, but I noticed that some of them had to do with other things as well. Something I noticed about the other times that Grace was being reckless that didn’t have to do with the Scarred Man was just Grace being the hero. One instance this happens is on Grace’s first night back at the embassy. Noah brought her to the party and when Grace and Lila start to fight, Rosie grabs Lila’s scarf and it falls into Iranian territory. Considering that Lila’s scarf was a gift …show more content…
He’s not playing anymore. He’s not having fun. This isn’t about torturing the kid sister, teasing her for being too small, too slow, too female to run with boys. “You scare me Grace.” Alexei sounds like he doesn’t want to admit it. But he does. “Yeah.” I take a slow step toward the embassy. “Sometimes I scare me, too.” To Alexei’s credit, he doesn’t follow. I can feel him watching me, though, his blue eyes tracking my every move. “You know I’m here if you need me, don’t you?” he calls out. When I look back, there’s no trace of his cocky smile. “Be careful, Alexei. The world is a dangerous place.” -Pages 229 & 230 This block quote shows how Grace has realized that Alexei might not always be stalking or annoying her. I think that this also shows how long their relationship has been, for him to know about Grace always breaking her bones. On the other hand, Alexei knowing that she hasn't been going to events with her grandfather is kind of creepy and stalkery, or Alexei just notices a lot of tiny details about her. I think that it’s pretty obvious that Alexei cares about Grace a lot, and i think that now, he might be watching her because he cares about her, not just because Jamie told him
The Lesson of Clueless Love in The Great Gatsby Danielle Dexter, author of the novel "Stupid Love", once wrote "The only thing that kept me going was knowing how easily I could have stayed with someone that wasn’t right for me. How I could have easily settled and accepted my life for what it was rather than what it could be.” This quote is the inverse of Gatsby's thinking in the novel, "The Great Gatsby". "The Great Gatsby", was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in the April of 1924. Fitzgerald grew up in Minnesota and began writing short stories in high school. "
A lot of people today get caught up in the past. They allow the memories to consume their minds, preventing them from moving on, living their lives. In the book The Great Gatsby by F. There are many reasons why a person would want to pretend like someone they are not. It could be for shame, fear, or pride, it could be for any reason. However, the real question is, is this worth it? The novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald deeply critiques the masks people put on during the 1920s just for the sole purpose of fitting in to society, which mostly consists of wealthy people. With this, comes the superficiality of them and the situation they are in.
The Death of Ivan Ilych is a short story written by Leo Tolstoy during the late 18th century. In this short story, Leo Tolstoy writes about a man named Ivan Ilych a very ambitious government official who has an untreatable illness who dies slowly, lonely and without the support of his family. This paper will convey Tolstoy’s theme in the Death of Ivan Ilych of Ivan Ilych superficial values and how it is reflected on his family and himself. This could be seen through Ivan Ilych and his wife throughout the short story as both express superficial values to each other.
Seen by others “As soon as I arrived I made an attempt to find my host, but the two or three people of whom I asked his whereabouts stared at me in such an amazed way, and denied so vehemently any knowledge of his movements, that I slunk off in the direction of the cocktail table – the only place in the garden where a single man could linger without looking purposeless and alone.” (Fitzgerald, 42) This quote describes Nick and how he gets invited to Gatsby’s party when he doesn’t know who Gatsby is. He asks people at the party and they have never seen him before. Gatsby is seen as mysterious to many people.
he lies and betrayal all due to his obsession with Daisy lead James Gatz into a downward spiral. The main character James Gatz nicknames Gatsby falls into different holes of temptation when returning from war and finding his old lover Daisy Buchanan who is now married and has a daughter with her husband Tom. Gatsby wants nothing more than to win her back and is willing to do anything to be with her regardless of the consequences or its effects on others. His illegal and morally wrong actions in an attempt to be with Daisy transform him into a corrupt antagonist. In The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, James Gatz is not truly a great man who commits illegal acts out of delusion and lies to himself and others.
Wealth and greed can easily change a person’s lives. One of the major changes is that you can destroy your life in a way that can affect your decisions in the future. Jealousy is the root of a lot problems this is the case with F. Scott Fitzgerald The Great Gatsby. In this book we will talk about how jealousy is the main factor in this topic. Consequently proving how jealous Tom Buchanan is when he is surrounded Jay Gatsby.
In the novel The Great Gatsby, F.Scott Fitzgerald depicts the theme of “wealth can breed carelessness” using the literary devices and/or techniques of irony, irony, and point of view. From Nick 's perspective, the wealthy characters of this story tend to act ignorantly and care nothing else besides themselves, which would impact others, including the actions shown by Gatsby, Tom, Daisy, and Jordan. Through Gatsby’s actions, he desperately created himself (wanted) to be with Daisy. “All men make mistakes, but a good man yields when he knows his course is wrong and repairs the evil. The only crime is pride.” A man named Sophocles once said this in the play, Antigone. Compelled, page 18. “Her face compelled me forward breathlessly as I listened-then the glow faded, each light deserting her with lingering regret like children leaving a pleasant street at dusk.” F. Scott Fitzgerald uses compelled here because it often implies control over the person being compelled. Other words like beckoned wouldn’t convey the lack of control Nick felt, despite being otherwise interchangeable. Enchanted, page 61.
