Chosen Leader: Oprah Winfrey
There are many great leaders throughout the world but the leader that our group chooses to write about is Oprah Winfrey - one of the world’s most influential women. Oprah Winfrey was born in 1954, she is a famous American media proprietor, talk show host, actress, producer, and philanthropist. The reason why we choose Oprah is because our group has 5 ladies, all ambitious and want to be successful in life. Oprah is an example of a woman that had overcome many difficulties in life and became one of the richest women. Studying about her will help us apply her leadership style and hopefully be a better leader in the future.

In 2002, Christianity Today published an article called "The Church of O" in which they concluded that Winfrey had emerged as an influential spiritual leader. As written in Wikipedia, “To her audience of more than 22 million mostly female viewers, she has become a postmodern priestess—an icon of church-free spirituality.” (Oprah Winfrey, 2017) She has influence over millions of people worldwide. “In 2007, Winfrey began to endorse the self-help program The Secret. The Secret claims that people can change their lives through positive thoughts or 'vibrations', which will then cause them to attract more positive vibrations that result in good things happening to them”. (Oprah Winfrey, 2017)

After many researches carried to have deep understanding about this incredible women, who has significant achievements in various discipline, it is said that she is such an authentic leader and her remarkable leadership skill is one of the deciding factors leading to her success. In the words of Joseph Chris, Oprah Winfrey’s leading style is a combination between transformational and charismatic style (Chris, 2015), which is also proved and supported by other articles, magazines and through the reality. In terms of charismatic leading aspect, she is the one whose “fire ignites followers’ energy & commitment” and together with the wise use of soft power, she has spread the positive energy for millions and millions people all over the world, and it is also said that “Unless you have been living under a rock, you have heard of Oprah Winfrey” (Ganchrow, 2015). Besides, she is also able to attract the attention from the publics with her natural ability without forcing the followers and “Rather, her approach to reach out and persuade people and her persistence has earned her the trust and praise of people around her” (3 Oprah Winfrey Leadership Style Secrets, 2016).
Characteristics of a good leader is being able to listen, step up, speak out loud,etc. I think maya is a good leader because she help people overcome their diffulties while she had her own. So i think this is someone people should look
I had an opportunity to interview this wonderful individual name, Stephanie M. Alejandro. She is from Puerto Ricco, she moved here about a year and 4 months ago. In Puerto Ricco, she studied Mass Communication, which led her to begin her career in the film industry. Ms. Alejandro is currently a full-time professional staff member at the University of South Florida, the manager of the Center for Student Involvement office located on the second floor of the Marshall Student Center building. I chose to interview her because I have heard a lot about what they do and it was fascinated.
Leadership, a word associated with bold and recorded act of an individual that made a lasting impact in some shape or form. In times such as trial and new beginning, great leaders emerge which are sometime immortalized by the passing time due to their legacy; however, not all who lead are necessarily bold and can lost in time and the ideology of the day. This is the case of Abigail Adam. Abigail Adam is woman hailed as a hero of feminism due to her personal writing to her famous husband, John Adams. Yet, when came to her actual work as a mother and the First Lady, she isn’t quite hailed as the ideal feminists.
A leader is someone that is in charge of a group,organization,country, etc. A leader is also someone that perfects all the views of leadership, this is important because when a leader is facing a situation he or she will know how to handle it. Everyone has leadership qualities but it's how you use these qualities and traits that make you a good or bad leader. For instance, Oprah is viewed as a good leader because although she went through a lot of issues in her life she was able to use those trials as a way to inspire others. Eleanor Roosevelt was a born leader. For more than 30 years, she was the most powerful woman in America. Niece of one president and wife of another, when her husband became president, she saw that as an opportunity to have her voice heard, and to pave a way for women in politics forever. Although Eleanor Roosevelt was considered a very outspoken and involved first lady she wasn't always this way, She grew up very sheltered and shy. Eleanor Roosevelt was born in New York City on October 11, 1884, to Anna Hall Roosevelt, and Elliott Bolloch Roosevelt, into a family of great wealth.
Lisa Cash Hanson said, "Leadership is the ability to guide others without force into a direction or decision that leaves them still feeling empowered and accomplished. " Hanson continues to remind me of the selfless nature that great leaders continue to practice. To me, leadership is not a title or destination. Leadership isn't about remembrance or fame, it's about the impact, inspiration, and the influence you have on others.
Listening, caring and devotion to her three kids— my mother. Change; something that the world’s most influential leaders have in common with my everyday encounters. But what does change have to do with anything? It has to do with leadership.
A leader is able to gain an audience’s attention because of their personality, morality, and how they hold themself. It is important for a leader to be organized, compassionate, able to compromise but also be firm on what they believe, and be a person who people look up to and aspire to be. I was part of an organization called National Charity League and this organization helped grow women’s confidence, public speaking skills, time management, and organizational skills. Each month, each class holds meetings to plan and discuss projects that follow the class’s focuses. This past year Class of 2023 philanthropic focus is children, cultural focus is international food, and for leadership we are focusing on self care and reflecting on the NCL experience.
She fought for her throne she was a strong female leader living in an ancient, male dominant, and yet made her impact on history. Cleopatra’s leadership distinguished her from the other Cleopatra’s of her day. She is an important leader to Egypt and also one of the most influenced female leaders in her time with more power than most female leaders can acquire. “If you want to become a great leader, you need to prepare yourself to become a great leader, and the best way to do that is to study great leaders.” (Schembechler 7). Being a leader means defining and exhibiting moral and ethical courage and setting an example for everyone within any given group. Being a leader helps you teach leadership skills to your family, friends, and employees who will then help do the "heavy lifting" of moving the masses from where it is today to where it needs to be in the future. In today's day in age, people will believe that great leaders are born to lead.
First and foremost, leaders come in all shapes and forms, there is not one set physical mold for them, but what they all do share are certain characteristics and desires. Leadership in and of itself, is the ability to guide others, take responsibility, and share a vision that inspires and leaves others with a sense of empowerment. Evidently, it takes an exceptional leader to exhibit exceptional leadership skills. Additionally, the most prominent act that all adequate leaders demonstrate is that they are steadily engaged in enhancing their leadership skills. There have been various magnificent leaders throughout history, such as Martin Luther King Jr., Sojourner Truth, Nelson Mandela, and Eleanor Roosevelt.
Name one person from your life (work or personal, past or present) that you view as a great leader. Why? Answer: My leader and most influential person in my life is my teacher James Perkins who taught me in school in the past. I believe that Sir Perkins is the one in my life, who had all the best leadership styles and competencies and he is no doubt a great leader. I can’t even name the characteristics, advice, and knowledge about leadership I learned from him.
Leadership has been defined in a variety of ways, there are multiple authors and theorists who have tried to define and understand leadership, all leading to varying theories and conclusions, but one thing that is universally understood is the importance of effective leadership and how someone with good leadership skills can impact so many people around them. (Kakabadse and Kakabadse, 1999; Yukl, 2002; Northouse,2013) The main components that have been identified to play a role in leadership are relations between leader and subordinates, interaction form between leader and followers, the influence that the leader has, the way in which the leader behaves and finally a leader’s traits. (Yukl, 2002) These elements that make up a leader, are then used as building blocks to identify the way in which each specific leader deals with its followers.
Whether people want or not, a leader/leaders are necessary to a society. Throughout history and around the world, there have been a number of leaders. When looking back on history, some are successful and others are total failure. However, it is not easy to divide leaders into good ones and bad ones.
Introduction At the present competitive world leadership is a dynamic process where influencing others is the most important issues. That’s why exercising power is one of the most important issue to be a charismatic leader and this power doesn’t come automatically it comes after advocating other fellow members. Here, one thing is most important to remind that the power should be imposed and exercise within the worth and boundaries of the leaders. However organization’s culture, its mission, vision, short-term strategies all these reform the leadership process.
