Ever since I was a young child I knew I had one dream I wanted to turn into a realty. Some kids would answer when asked what they wanted to be when they grew up where, “An artist,” “A princess,” “Rich and famous.” But at that age, I knew I wanted to be a pediatrician. Saving lives and helping children was a dream I wanted to turn into a reality. At a young age, I was taught to work hard for anything you wanted to achieve. During high school, I studied and was an active member in the community. Receiving the scholarship from the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus meant that I was on the right track to being successful. Receiving the scholarship meant a lot because it felt rewarding to know my hard work and determination had paid off. Not only …show more content…
One of the many sciences you must take is Biology 101. In Biology 101, you learn much information that will be a platform for all of the science courses you will take. Taking this course comes with buying a large book that is packed with information. Much of this book includes information beneficial in other sciences such as Chemistry. Today, as many know, college books are fairly expensive. Receiving the LLBC scholarship helped me pay for that Biology book that will help me throughout my undergraduate and medical school education. At the Smithfield Court Community Center on Sept. 30 the Smithfield Court/ Elyton Walk club acknowledged Miles College senior social work major Tiffany Taylor who was presented a $5,802 scholarship from the Housing Authority Birmingham District. Taylor decided at an early age that she wanted to further her education. She has seen many people from her neighborhood lose their lives from being in the streets and didn 't want to be another statistic. Miles College was her first choice because it is a Historically Black College and University. " To further my education at a HBCU means that I am receiving the best education by teachers who look just like me.
“You did it. You helped make a difference,” were the words I heard when I felt my perspective on life change. It was in that moment, standing in the hallway of my high school, holding a crisp check of $2,000 for the American Heart Association that I realized I did not need to be a superhero in order to make a difference. When I became the president of my National Honor Society(NHS) chapter, I set out to make a difference within my school. In years past, the NHS chapter at my school was not extremely active and I set out to reinvent the chapter.
It was an ordinary day of lecture in my Anatomy class when all of a sudden I get a slip notifying me to visit one of the counselor’s offices at my school. I was for one, extremely happy to be able to give my wrist a break from all the writing, but I was even more ecstatic once I found out why I was being excused. The counselor that called me down was reaching out to an abundance of African American, female students, to inform them about the Sistah’s Rock Reaching for the Future Scholarship. I was overcome with joy because she truly wanted to see us excel, and took time out of her busy schedule to speak with us. I am currently in my Senior year of high school and have plans to attend the University of California, Santa Cruz in the fall.
Due to my completion of 300 hours serving my community, AmeriCorps granted me a scholarship for $1,671 to go towards my education. This scholarship was an honor because that year out of the program only, myself and another member was awarded with this scholarship out of a group of nine. I was very proud to have been able to complete my hours along with leaving an imprint of service in my
This also prompted me to volunteer and mentor within my own community at home and at the great Bethune-Cookman University. And speaking of my university, the founder, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune; gives me a sense of inspiration and perseverance in pursuing my own goals since she was and still is the beacon of strength and faith for so many others in a time where people did not value the goals and dreams of an African American
In his speech LaBeouf says, "Some people dream of success, but you are going to wake up and work hard at it. Don't let your dreams be dreams. " This often renews my resolve to give the assignment one more try. As far as I can remember, I aspired to be a pediatrician.
I should be awarded this scholarship because I will use it for the benefit of young children with special needs. The name of this scholarship is "Courage to Grow", and I believe receiving this will help give me the education needed to raise my courage in order to spread wisdom and encouragement that will one day enrich a young person and will help them grow into intellectual and inspiring men and women. This scholarship will help me to go into the world and change the lives of young people who may feel discouraged or negatively affected by the verbal and mental abuse all because a doctor said there was something "wrong" . I hope that because of my teaching, young students with special needs will begin seeing themselves as individuals instead
Receiving a Golden 1 scholarship will make a meaningful difference to me and my family because this scholarship will help pay for my education. I plan on double-majoring in physics and bioengineering, both cutting-edge, competitive fields. With this scholarship I can continue to further my education in both of these fields, and work towards a bachelors, masters, or even a doctorate degree. I love to learn, and going to school has always been a privilege for me. I never want to stop learning and expanding my mind, and the Golden 1 scholarship will help me continue to learn each and every day.
The Community College Completion Corps event was particularly important to me because I was always told that I would end up married and without a degree. Serving as an officer in Phi Theta Kappa Beta Delta Omicron chapter has also helped me demonstrate my leadership ability.
In high school and college I am starting to realize that teachers don’t give specific rewards for getting good grades. But I have learned that we are paving the way for us to get a better future and that is the best award of them all. Being a student athlete I believe that I am receiving more than regular students because you learn so many life lessons in sports. I believe that the field trip that I went on is what made me start to apply myself better in school. I received the about $4,000 in academic scholarships for attending UW Parkside.
I was also part of organizations such as Safe School Ambassadors, Academic Achievers, Interact Club, and Robotics Club. I graduated in the top 5% of my high school class in 2014. I was accepted into the McLennan Community Honors College. When I received the news, my family and I were more than willing to accept the two year scholarship that paid for my tuition.
A year ago when this scholarship was released, a senior asked me for ideas to include in their essay and I had absolutely zero. It wasn't until the end of my final basketball season that I really grasped the importance of being a tiger athlete and realized what I was going to miss in the upcoming years. For six years, I put everything I had into one sport, and I asked myself more than once what I was getting out of all this effort. Now after endless hours in the gym and weight room, after shedding ounces of blood, sweat and tears I realize what being an athlete gave back to me, and it's even more than I gave to it. Being a tiger athlete taught me the values of true friendships, hard work, leadership, and determination.
Ramiah Family Foundation Scholarship I believe that part of my qualification for the Ramiah Family Foundation Scholarship lies in the amount of passion I have put into my studies and work. I have attempted to represent myself with integrity in all aspects of my life whether that be through attending rigorous schools, volunteering and applying myself in the community, or planning towards the future. If asked if I believe I deserve this scholarship as reward for this commitment I would gladly have to admit that I do not believe this is the case. My reasoning behind answering this way is that I have already found great reward in the pride that comes in putting the amount of work into your pursuits as you wish to receive from it.
Upon hearing the word scholarship, many would think of money given to you by schools or organizations. However, I think of achievement. When scholarships are awarded to students, they are typically in recognition of the student’s achievements. (Typically, scholarships are awarded in recognition of student achievements.) If I were to receive a scholarship for my achievements, I would be honored to be recognized for something special I have done or accomplished.
Education has in most cases been the main priority and factor in defining the outcome of a prosperous life. My mother being raised in an incredibly humble environment in the poor countryside of Haiti; continuously embedded the brilliant Nelson Mandela quote in my mind growing up that stated, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” I carried out this mantra throughout my educational career and committed to excelling in my education in order to be awarded the gift of opportunity. I believe that I am uniquely deserving of this scholarship because of the combination of my strong work ethic and hunger for success and knowledge.
