Registered nurses graduating from New York nursing degree programs have more than doubled since 2002 according to the University at Albany's Center for Health Workforce Studies report. The number of bachelor's degrees awarded to nursing students has spiked from 4,913 in 2011 to 5,866 in 2014. Over that same time period, those earning two-year associate degrees dropped slightly from 5,398 to 5,263, marking the first time four-year nursing degrees outpaced two-year degrees. In some colleges and universities that offer nursing courses online, lectures have been eliminated or replaced with interactive seminars. Some online nursing programs, for example, provide interactive seminars to students in all nursing courses. Seminars have multiple uses, including providing a platform for faculty to present information not yet available in a textbook, addressing topics that students have expressed an interest in, or answering questions on course content. Use of online seminars helps learners make connections among readings, online discussion, and written assignments. Nursing has always been a career that I have wanted to pursue since I was little. I want encourage individuals when they are ill. I want nothing more than to help those who are helpless and just need someone by their side through all their obstacles. An issue that always come to my mind is do newly graduated nurses that want to pursue a job have to start at the bottom where they have to prove themselves and work their way up to the position they want to purse or do they start in the exact position that they desire? Nursing can be very competitive and without the right people to get the job done, patient’s will not be satisfied.
Online learning in higher education institutions has become a boom in the last years. It is a tool for non traditional students juggling with several responsibilities wanting to pursue an education with time flexibility. More students are enrolling in online courses and universities are looking for ways to engage students in an online environment. However, the current online platform seems to have several issues. For instance, communication between students and professors is often lost in online learning.
They say, “We are now watching the early expressions of those possibilities: podcasts and streaming videos in real time of professors’ lectures, online discussions among students scattered across the country, online interaction between students and professors, online exams, and tutorials augmented by computer-aided instruction software” (Murray 243). With all the positives of technology integrated into education there are even more negatives. Through video chatting, podcasts and much more the basic soft skills of a student are diminished. The more online sources of knowledge we find the more it is shared for all to see. The use of technology is supposed to help us become smarter, but in obtaining a degree it is only hurting students.
However, the fact that many nursing schools do not expose their students to simulated learning environments has contributed to poor performance in the field. Berox (2016) examined the level of student performance outcome through multiple patient simulations. One of the features of the online learning is that it is easy for students to participate (Fedynich 2). In online learning, participation is usually done by written discussion on a chat room or a message board. As a result, students have the opportunity to listen to broader views, including those who may be involved in the traditional environment. Thus, the interaction in the online environment promotes student - centered learning and encourages more students to participate. For examples, on the Internet, students can use BBS, E-mail and other network tools to ask questions to teachers, discuss problems with their classmates, and form interactive learning.
Terry I agree that the healthcare system is dynamic and that we, as healthcare providers, need to anticipate the needs of society. I think that it is great that you are already in a position where you can educate those at senior facilities, homeless shelters and schools. Your position as a wellness nurse has given you the opportunity to act on the definition of positive social change which “…results in the improvement of human and social conditions” (Walden University, 2015, para 4). In the U.S., nurses make up the single largest health workforce. They perform a wide array of patient care duties and are imperative to the delivery of health care services across various settings. These settings include hospitals, clinics, ambulatory care clinics, nursing/retirement homes, home health agencies, and hospice programs. There are different types of nurses depending on the amount of education, role distinctions, and the level of autonomy in practice. Basically, there is a dangerous and widespread lack of skilled nurses who are in demand for patients and the population who are in need of care.
In the main body, the article identified seven emerging technologies that will change the practice of nursing; three skill sets nurses will need to develop to acquire, use, and integrate these emerging technologies; and four challenges nurse leaders will face in integrating this new technology. The paragraphs in the body were filled with narrations and citations in table formats giving an easy understanding of the main concepts. Therefore the information in each paragraph was easy to access, however there were too many subheadings, which meant that there was quite a detailed information contained under each concept under discussion. The solutions to deal with the challenges and conclusions were developed towards the end of the article and had a comprehensive summary of the main points covered by the article. The conclusion did develop future policy and encouraged nurse leaders to begin thinking now about how emerging technologies will change the practice of nursing and proactively create the educational models and leadership development programs necessary to assure that nurses will have the competencies they need to address these emerging
I have learned about how the different nurse 's theories have evolved and influenced the current nursing practice. The information learned in Professional Roles and Values class gave me the skills to apply critical thinking, decision making, quality of care, safety, delegation and leadership to provide quality of patient-centered care to my patients, and in my community. Evidence-based practice class provided me with the knowledge of how to find the correct information, how to conduct a research and how to apply the new evidence-based findings in my clinical practice setting. The class of information management and application of technology taught me about how to manage information and technology and how technology must be used to deliver quality and safe patient care. The Organizational Systems class provided me with the information and skills needed to understand the roles of the different regulatory agencies.

Education is the most important thing in our life. As studens make greater use of Internet resources, online learning have continued to grow in popularity and effectiveness. Online learning let students learn at their own pace, accomplish assignments on their own schedules and acquire the same knowledge as they would in a traditional, classroom-based course. Just like traditional education, online instructors use discussion, assignments and community to educate students. Findings in the study indicate that online students may engage more often in deeper learning on assignments than those in the traditional classroom environment.

However, even though it sounds appealing, students need to consider the advantages and features of face to face learning which cannot be found online.
