“At some point you have to realize that some people can stay in your heart but not your life.” -Sandi Lynn. Life changing things can happen any second when you least expect it. Sometimes for better or for worse. Either way, these events mold us to who we are today. For me, it would have to be my parents divorce. I would have never expected this to happen to my family. Partly because in my south Asian culture it didn 't happen often. We were custom to arranged marriages and the father being the main provider for the family. There was a commonly held view that the man was dominant and the woman was submissive. The sense of masculinity took away from the independence of women. Due to these ideals Divorce was a bizarre thing which never seemed to …show more content…
Education was always an unquestionable topic. There was no maybe. We knew we would always go to college because my mom has never been to college and came to this country with no knowledge on how things worked. It was difficult for her to get a job with no education, which is why she greatly stressed that we get our education. She didn 't want her children to go through the same struggle. It was just expected from her that we would go to college, get an education and have a better life than she did. I had started working at age 16. Progressing through high school had given me insight of how children my age were spending their time. It was not hard to get attached to the idea that some kids worked solely for themselves. But for me, I felt a moral obligation to help my mom support our family. I was able to learn how to balance work with school and still managed to keep my grades up; this was a great accomplishment for me. My moms determination to provide for us and give us a better life made me want to strive high. With this determination I would like to pursue a major in business. This area interests me due to its broad opportunities in the workforce. It gives you the option of working in many fields. For example with working in the health field as part of the management team. I’ve never liked the idea of being stuck at one job and not having the option for something else without having to go back to school for a new degree. Fortunately, business provides one with many
However, some women worked when they were younger so that they could provide more using their income for their future children. 3.

Men had more power as opposed to women at the time. Women had to obey the commands of their husband even if they didn’t agree. Another example is harm came upon anyone who made poor choices, like Kingston’s aunt. She paid the price for her mistakes by throwing herself with her baby in the well. Also the villagers ending all that she owned.
I finally got a job couple months after I turned sixteen. Not knowing much, but adapting and learning each day from peers. The paychecks came in, but so did the responsibility. My Mom, required me to pay my phone bill and for other expenses i
In the beginning, I started working when I was 17 years old. I worked at a retail store in Bloomfield, New Jersey after school and on the weekend. I began working at an early age because I want to stand on my own feet and I do not want to rely on my family.
In the 19th and into the 20th-century women had specific duties. Wives were to clean the house, cook eat meal, and take care of the children. Few women were well-educated with their own property; unmarried of course. They wanted more opportunity and excitement.
On Sunday mornings, you wake up early and nothing is on television besides Judge Judy, Divorce Court, or Judge Mathis. The Judges are ruthless and do not seem to have sympathy for anyone. They often yell to boost the ratings of the show. This is merely just an exaggeration of how the court systems work. Judges don’t only have sympathy for the defendants that aren’t financially stable enough to pay for their lawsuit.
Men were not the only ones feeling this way. This movement is what kick started woman into wanting to be independent and their own person. Woman did many different things to start showing their right to be individuals and make their own rational
Maryland Park Service opportunity Wayne Wilson Career and Professional Development II Frostburg State University As I get closer to graduation I am deciding on what my goals and objectives are when I graduate from college. I am majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in General management. In the past I have been involved in peer tutoring and took part in activities with Phi Theta Kappa. I have also volunteered for the Allegany County animal shelter and local volunteer fire companies. I also have had two years of work experience with the Maryland Park Service as a seasonal ranger.
I not only studied my job (data systems administrator), but I also met new people and started to network with loads of great people that are all over the country and overseas now. I enjoyed getting to know new people and helping them study when they needed it, or when they helped me learn when I didn't understand the material. Not only that, but I began to go to the gym, and that's where I built my mentality not to give up. I'm the kind of person who pushes people to be their best.
I chose to go full time to school and stay part time at work. Although these were stressful decisions and I have certainly had moments for feeling overwhelmed I know it will be a challenge that will ultimately provide a better career. The accomplishment of completing a degree will hopefully encourage more than just myself.
I suppose when i used to think of cultural identity, i perceive it as what racial background we come from, what race we are. Whether it’s Mexican, Asian, French, etc… I assumed it meant what special foods we eat, and events or activities we participate in according to our background. Little did i know this is a misconception; quite a common one actually. Cultural identity is actually how you live your life and how you express yourself, the things you enjoy that make you, you. I am someone who enjoys many things, ranging from A-Z.
