Through years of following in my dad's shadows, and following directly in his footsteps, he led me right into the welding family. My dad welded his whole life and now works at a small shop making 32 dollars and hour, which inspired me to become a welder and follow my dreams of supporting a family and living a healthy life without worrying about payments. As I became older I began to realize the decision I had to make going into my junior year. While making a big decision in my life it was pretty easy considering the trips our school took to the CTC. Mr. Kearns talked to me for a little while by myself and he inspired me on the amount of money and the amount of jobs that are available in the welding field. The way you can have electricity in your hands and melt metal together to make it permanent inspired me, and this is why I chose to come to CTC for metal fabrication and welding. …show more content…

I gained my first exposure to the union movement when I joined the United Food and Commercial Workers’ union as a bagger at the local grocery store. Acme Fresh Market introduced me to many aspects of the working life, but joining and learning about our Local 880 union proved a unique source of information and stability. Even through moving to work as a cashier and pharmacy technician, the union has always undoubtedly offered support and security during my whole working experience. The union has offered me countless benefits, some involving a fair wage, a safe working environment, paid vacations and breaks, protects of my civil rights, and an eight hour workday with possibility of overtime compensation.

After high school, though, I will be finished with Cowley and will attend Wyotech to further my knowledge in diesel and automotive performance. Wyotech is located in 3 states and i will be attended the one in Laramie Wyoming. I will have many certifications after I graduate from Cowley, but right now I am Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified in Performance I and II and Electrical I and II. When it comes to learning these skills I am a quick learner, have a good memory, and good people skills. These will all help me in my future career because I plan to work in an automotive or diesel shop after Wyotech.

This is because in my family no one has a degree except my father. My father was a teacher, and always encourages me and my brothers to get a career. For my brothers, having a career is very hard, and they believe that school is very difficult to concentrate. Now I am sure that my father will be very proud of me one day after getting my degree. Another example is that my niece Karen sees me as a role model.

The reason I want to get into welding is because it is a good career to go into. The benefits of being a welder is this world will always need welders; it is a very demanding job. Welding has inspired me because I enjoy welding and I am very good at it. I realized I wanted to be a welder when i was eleven years old when my Dad was teaching me. That's when I realized I had a passion to become a welder.
My grandpa always loved working at the Watkins Center, in the past he has told me that getting his masters was one of his greatest achievements. When we moved to the initiative v. guilt stage, I asked him what he wanted to to be when he grew up, he said “Well I
Welding should become an encore choice in middle schools. Learning and getting to be yourself is a very important thing to discover in yourself. In welding the welder has to be independant and NOT let others shut them down. Being yourself in welding is very important, if you don’t believe in yourself its very hard to achieve the goals you set. Kalie Kip was a girl who didn’t let people tell her what welding was a man's job, she states “if welding was started earlier, then maybe more kids would try it.”
I’m currently taking a welding class in High School and I have already achieved a couple of certs. This year i’m entering the TSA competition hoping to win district and maybe even be a state champion. The reasons why I would like to attend Tulsa Welding School is to further my education on welding and it’s also a small sized school located close to home. Tulsa Welding School is only specific for welding and pipefitting and doesn’t have other courses, so you can focus only on what you are really there for.
It was important for me to continue my education, especially in this field as it has always been a dream of mine. In my family neither of my parents attended college, through the years I have watched them do jobs they hated so me and my siblings could be successful. As I got older my brother attended college, be prospered and graduated in four years. He now has a steady job and
