I’m a big football fan, but I have to tell you if I had a son, I’d have think long and hard before I let him play football,” says President Obama (Fox News). People think banning football would decrease the amount of head injuries, “Characterized by hard tackles and intense speeds, the sport is conducive to a number of serious injuries, but there is one that has received a substantial amount of attention: mild traumatic brain injury and concussions” (Grush). Injuries can be prevented by the coaches focusing more on tackling the right way to anticipate injuries having to do with not doing it the right way. Also, most deaths having to do with football do not have to do with concussions, but with heat strokes. This can be prevented by pushing back the practicing season for football. Another thing, kids and parents know what they are getting into with the dangers and all, but they sign up anyway. People believe that concussions and deaths are the results of football, but the good outweighs the bad and the concussions can be prevented Football should not be banned because it keeps kids off the streets and into the classroom. In Michael Lewis’s “The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game,” a homeless boy is given a second chance by getting the opportunity to play football in high school. This heartwarming story about a teenager, Michael Oher, proves that football and other
This makes it clear that no matter the protection, the game should be the one changing instead of the protection. Safety equipment does not always increase safety the way its designers or legislators think it will. A study found football helmets on average reduce the risk of traumatic brain injury by only 20 percent compared to not wearing helmets. Alarmingly, those helmets with the least protection are the most popular ones out in the field. It is most likely for player to keep getting hurt than for the NFL or any other organization to ban a game that brings the attention of millions of
For example, better protective head gear and rules against head butting would allow less permanent damage and head-on-head contact. These changes could make the sport much safer for players, including young children that are being put in danger by playing football. The dangers of football concealed by the NFL were detrimental to the lives of many players, young and old, and their loved ones.
Research shows that having many concussions may lead to Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, otherwise known as CTE. When it comes to football, safety should be the priority, not banning it. Football can lead to concussions, but so can many other things. Banning youth football would not help at all, although the people wanting to ban it do have some good points.
Carson Simpson Mrs. Gallos English 3 Honors 24 April 2017 Concussions in Football Although football is a very popular sport, changes need to be made. There is a lot of research and data showing head injuries in football and how they hurt the players. The NFL tries to just sweep these cases away because they know it would hurt the popularity and economical support of the sport. Head injuries and concussions are the most popular injuries in football because of the fact that they are one of the most dangerous injuries a player could have.
Although some football enthusiasts believe that children under the age of twelve should play tackle football because it promotes friendship and teamwork, the negative impact that the sport has on the brains of adolescent males outweighs the comradery that the sport teaches. Children play the sport without thinking of the effects of the brain injuries. Through interviews with past players as well as scientific studies, researchers have found that the cognitive ability of males (average age of early fifties) is greatly affected by the age in which the young player began playing (Boston University School of Medicine). Boston University’s Dr. Robert Stern said the concern is not from concussions, it is from, “subconcussive hits: these hits that don’t necessarily result in the symptom right then, but people can get hundreds of them a year.”
With more and more young people playing football, the risk of players becoming disabled is becoming greater and greater. Depression, behavior that is erratic, headaches, and Alzheimer's disease (which does lead to death) are just some of the long-term effects of football. As a result, children should not play football due to its deadly effects. Another reason is you are probably thinking, "My child is safe; they always have a helmet on when playing football." Guess again, because no particular type of helmet

These concussions lead to long lasting negative effects such as thinking and memory problems.
Since children are not fully developed, it is morally reprehensible to allow them to play such a sport in which they can possibly have life-changing or life-ending injuries. Far too many high school athletes get concussions from playing football (Watson 35). Approximately 100,000 high schoolers report concussions each year
Football should be banned in the United States because it can lead to a concussion, can cause brain damage, and can even kill you. Although there are sports that have similar risk factors to high school football, according to Shotz’s article, “There are more concussions in football than in any other sport. That’s why kids are deciding not to play.” (Shotz 1). Shotz mentions that even NFL players won’t let their own children play because they feel as if the game is just too risky. If the football stars we watch on television don’t want to have their children play football, why should we find every excuse to allow children to play if we know the precautions of

Football has always been a huge part of my life. I fell in love with the sport in 2002 as a 9-year-old, and played on every team I could from Pop Warner to high school. Staying after school every day for practice has taught me discipline and how to be a good teammate, and I think it played a big part in who I am today. Some of my fondest memories are of my dad and me spending every Sunday watching NFL football. It ensured that he and I always had something to talk about together and we grew closer because of it.
