The Crusades were various religious wars amongst Christians and Muslims. It all started as a means to control and secure the holy lands that were spiritual to both. Between 1096 and 1291, eight main crusades occurred. During those years, the Crusades were known for being ruthless and violent during fights hence making them brutal opponents during the war. There were various goals of the crusaders. The economic goal was that vendors profited by making credits, renting ships, and by engaging in other trades as the routes expanded. Social goals were made by boys that knew they couldn’t acquire any land from their father therefore they joined the crusades to get their own land. Also, sellers benefitted by providing Crusaders with goods and by taking part in other trades. Crusaders started their expedition as a means to fight for their faith. The Crusader had to travel across Europe with many people that had different duties so it was a long and slow journey. Crusaders were successful in their battles. The Muslims fought hard as well making it difficult for the Crusaders to keep what they had gained. So, it was a long battle between both of them. The Spanish crusade occurred in Spain against the Muslims who controlled most of the country until 1100s. The Spanish Crusade who is also known as the Reconquista was a fight to get Muslims to leave Spain. By 1492, the last kingdom of the Muslim was overtaken by the Christian Army. The Jews and Muslims that remained in Spain supposedly converted to Christianity. Although, the crusades won some battles they also lost others. These failures gave the Pope less power because they had to share their territory. The less power the pope had the more the kings gained.
