When realizing what you fear, you are more likely to be scared and hurt by the fear. Since it has been feared for so long that idea of fear starts to fade without realizing it because it is normal at some point. Fearing something for so long can make someone lose hope in certain accomplishments and fights. Some people will live in fear because of the thought that what they fear will eventually catch up to them, “ Tis harder knowing it is due, Than knowing it is here.”

Slavery Slavery has proved itself to be one of the most gruesome and unnerving events in the history of the planet, on par with the Holocaust. Due to this issue, many men, women, and children have fought and are still fighting for their basic human rights and yearn to be equal due to this incident in our history. With this in mind, slavery, a horrific event which started in the early 1600’s, was perpetrated against African natives and both its influence and importance has spread into the current day. Although slavery is banned today in America, it still goes on today. Slavery, of course, has been around since BC/AD times but it wasn't until “1619 in Jamestown, Virginia that 20 captive African natives were sold into slavery in the Americas”(http://www.pbs.org/wnet/slavery/timeline/1619.html).

There were four things that greatly contributed to African, race-based slavery: the European attitude towards Africans, the European attitudes toward slavery, the overall labor shortage in the New World due to the failure of European and Native American laborers, and the great ease that the Europeans had in getting slaves in Africa. Slavery initiated within Colonial America due to economic, social, and political factors, having an effect

The tone is gloomy compared to “The Black Cat” that Poe has also written. The author starts off the story with immense details of the setting. The readers get a dark vibe from these details.
