Truett Cathy was a very humble man. He remembers to praise God for the advances he makes, and he tries to keep his business simple and friendly. In chapter 1, he speaks on the fact that he wasn’t the Straight A student in school, but that’s not what makes a successful person. He reminds us that common sense and hard work are what makes a person successful and able to accomplish their goals. He recalls his first opportunity, being the Chick-fil-A Sandwich, as a simple concept. He wanted it to be boneless, skinless chicken on a toasted buttered bun with two pickles. From this we can see that it doesn’t require a 5 star meal with fancy named dishes to become famous. Once he started creating these and he opened his first store in the Greenbriar …show more content…
Truett truly understood that the growth of Chick-fil-A came from the individuals who understood the problems that could arise in operations, legalities, marketing, personnel and real estate aspects of the business. In Chapter 1 alone, Mr. Truett makes it extremely clear to the reader that he didn’t just wake up one day and make a multi-billion dollar business. He was a normal man with a great idea and a God who helped him succeed. In Chapter 2, he begins by talking on how he barely had enough money to begin his business. He understood that if he wanted his business to succeed that he had to sacrifice quite a bit to get the Dwarf House up and running. It comes down to the fact that if a business is opened with the biggest and best equipment instead of slowly working up to the luxuries, the business will be bankrupt in a very small amount of time. He also reveals that the model for building a customer base is offering free food to get people to try the restaurant out. It also boils down to good food and good service, but not any service... second mile service. To explain, first mile service is when a guest comes in and is greeted with a smile, served good food, and is served quickly and accurately in a clean …show more content…
My favorite line in this book came from chapter 5 and it reads, “Chick-fil-A is what it is today because of its product, people and purpose.” It takes much more than just serving great food to guests to make Chick-fil-A prosper. From this book I can take away that there is much more involved in leading than ordering people around. Mr. Cathy made sure to not order people around, but to ask people if they want to do something then ask if it’s a problem. From this book I can also take away that a good leader needs a good foundation. The foundation consists of hard work, a strong faith in God, and good leadership skills. Finally, the very last page and the very last of the “Eleven Do’s and Don'ts of Proven Success” really spoke to me. The fact of the matter is that we need to strive to make every decision with God involved. Whether that be the decision to be a team leader or that be the decision on how to lead once you become a leader, God has to be involved in every decision. God really did design us to be winners, and we have to honor that by stepping up and leading or doing whatever we are called to
Chick-fil-a was the only job I could find when the time came for me to work to fund the majority of my college expenses. I wasn’t exactly thrilled to be working at a fast food establishment but the positive and cheerful environment that was fostered there made it fun. The customers always welcomed it and reciprocated it with equal enthusiasm. I saw the positive results of a customer-centered business. This model could be applied in my future career in medicine to ensure that patients feel heard and appreciated while employees feel happy to go to work.
Russ Carreker grew up playing football and had the opportunity to play collegially at Auburn University. He started to study to become a veterinarian, but that did not work out. He finished school in business and was looking for something that he could start making money from. Mr. Carreker believed in seven different things that could help a business become successful: You must have a good product at a great price or a great product at a good price, selling skill at the right market, be able to be the accountant of your own business until you can find someone who can do it for you, start off with enough capital because in a new business something is going to go wrong, ability to get others to help you get to where you want to be, be passionate

Truett Cathy is the founder of the famous Chick-Fil-A, and also an entrepreneur. Cathy was born on March 14, 1921 in Eatonton, Georgia, a typical southern man who came up with a masterplan idea to create this popular fast-food restaurant. Earlier in his life, Cathy served in the army during WWII. Later on, Cathy and his brother/ business partner opened a restaurant which included this magnificent chicken sandwich, which later became the signature item for Chick-Fil-A. Of course, his original restaurant called Dwarf House is still in operation today in the metro Atlanta area. After finding this company, he was married and had three children, one girl and two boys named Don, Dan, and Trudy.
Prior to reading Leading with Soul, I had never considered a spiritual side of leadership. I always believed that a person was born with leadership skills. I never had to work at being a leader;
Furthermore, Long tells us about the middle-class Americans who decide to move there, in order to be part of the diverse town. One example is Kitti Murray, who opened up a food truck and began selling artisanal coffee. The food truck made it possible for more recent arrivals not only to get job training, but also a space for the community to connect. Additionally,
Basically, I learned that it is crucial to take audacious steps when we see people in vulnerable situations. Additionally, it is very important for me to lead others by example, have a positive attitude even amid intense circumstances, work as a team, listen to others’ suggestions, articulate my vision to the team members, and encourage others. In addition, I learned that a leadership role has to be Christ centered and it needs to be a grace driven effort in lieu of self-seeking success. My previous experiences helped me to believe that a community of believers working together with servant-heart mindset can, definitely, transform the vulnerable societies.
It opens a new era for take-out foods. Even though they don’t use much technology in cooking process but applying a lot of currently technology is one of their strength. There is no product technology or research and developments occurs which can make a real difference in the products they offers. But it has a secret recipe, which separates its fried chicken and other foods from other fast food providers and attracts more customers. This actually helps it to gain more
While we often kid about Chick-Fil-A and how perfect the restaurant is, it’s hard to ignore just how glorious their food can be. Chick-Fil-A is top six favorite foods in Texas according to Fox news. What types of marketing strategies is chick-fil-A following? The type of strategy that the founder and CEO S. Truett Cathy developed for Chick-Fil-A was a target marketing strategy. The reason is because S. Truett Cathy focused on building the companies and other strategies that he used around his Christianity beliefs. Chick-Fil-A also made sure that every employ focused on delivering the best service they could to every customer that they served.
Introduction Chick-fil-A (CFA) is a restaurant chain admired by many but it also attracted a lot of controversy over the last few years. The founder, Truett Cathy, have created a culture that differentiates the organization from most other fast-food chains, and the company have stayed true to its values till the present days. In this case study, the company’s competitive advantage, the strategic leadership initiatives that helped the company attain success, how it responded to its external environment, and the strategic challenges it is facing are discussed. In addition, findings on the company’s approach on its international expansion and its status as a privately-owned company are included, and possible directions the company might take in these areas are suggested.
Critically compare and evaluate three themes or issues related to the practice of leadership discussed in the readings and set text taking into consideration a Biblical worldview. The three themes that are related to the practice of leadership that I will review are Model the way (leading by example) , Inspire a shared vision (leading continuous change) and Enable others to act (giving others the opportunity to lead and make decisions). In the book the Leadership challenge Kouzes and Posner define "leadership as the art of mobilizing others to want to struggle for shared aspirations.
Being Christian leaders mean we will act and treat people differently than the world around us. Jones states, “What’s Christian about Christian leadership? is Jesus. Centering our lives in Jesus, the second person of the Trinity, enables us to locate our institutions and our leadership in this comprehensive story of God” (2009). “Rather than focusing on a situation or the people as the object of control and manipulation a servant-leader pays attention to his own mindset toward others” (Chung, 2011, p.162). “Christ-shaped leadership is about developing a fundamentally Christian background in your institution or organization” Rowe, 2011, p.1).
