Also, graphic photos from inside the home where the family was killed. These pictures are relevant for us to know because it could give us the idea of how each person was murdered in where in the house. This case became a major problem in 1959. In a Hutchinson article I found on the internet talks about the tragedy and who the Clutter family were. After hearing about the murders of Herb Clutter and his family, Truman Capote wanted to go to Kansas and write about the murders of the family. I think Capote wanted to write about the murder of the Clutter family because it was horrifying and the process of getting evidence and reports from police officials is a different technique from what he usually did. Also, during the 1950’s people where not familiar with non-fiction novels. If Richard Hicklock and Perry Smith knew Herb Clutter had money and they came to his home seeking for money and got what they went to look for, why did they kill the family? Was there another way they could of handle the situation? If the murder was accidental why did they
They’re the fourth and fifth case of this kind in the last two weeks. All found decapitated, all in corn fields. That’s about all we knew, we had no clues to who was committing these gruesome crimes, or why. The word was starting to spread around town, all the corn mazes that were still open decided to close. It wasn’t like they were going to get any business with murders popping up.
The Police arrived shortly after and entered Mr. and Mrs. Clutter 's room, there they found Mrs.Clutter tied up and executed the same way as her daughter. Kenyon, the youngest of the Clutters was found in the basement, he was found dead in the same
On November 15, 1959 the Clutter family was brutally murdered in their two story home in rural Holcomb Kansas. Holcomb was a small city in Finney County. Holcomb was so small everyone knew each other. If you lived in a small town where everyone knew each other and all of a sudden a murder of a family happened , who would you think did it? Would you think it was someone you knew, or someone that randomly passed by the town?
List had torn his face out of all of the family photos around the house, he had parked his car at the Kennedy International Airport without booking a flight, and the List home was destroyed by an undiscovered arson criminal on August 30th, 1971, nine months after the murders took place. Helen, John Jr, Patricia, and Frederick were all buried next to one another in cheap caskets and List’s mother Alma was flown back to Michigan. The case eventually fell into the jurisdiction of the FBI. However, the search for List was not successful and the case eventually went
The KBI, Kansas Bureau of Investigation, acquired the information that would eventually solve the Clutter case from a man named Floyd Wells, a prisoner at the Kansas State Penitentiary. Floyd told detectives, that he was listening to the news one evening when he first heard about the unsolved quadruple homicide and knew who was responsible for the atrocious crime. Subsequently, Wells began to elaborate how he knew. Wells recounted the evening when he and his former cellmate, Richard Hitchcock, spoke about their lives before prison.

In Garden City, on November 18, 1959 bloodstains were found leading to the Clutter murder case last week. These bloodstains were found on the Arkansas River bridge near the Herbert Clutter farm. County Attorney Duane West confirmed that they had not determined if the blood stains was human blood or from an animal. He said there are many pheasant hunters around the area and is very possible the stains came from an animal. The stains, fingerprints, rope and tape were taken from the house and to be sent to the Kansas Bureau of investigation laboratory in Topeka to be analyzed today.

Capotes creates sympathy for Detective Dewey by allowing the reader to think about what it would be like to have family member who is extremely involved in work about the
How crazy would it be to interview criminals who murdered 4 people in cold blood? Well that’s exactly what Truman Capote did in this chilling book. In the novel In Cold Blood, Truman Capote used different rhetorical strategies to create sympathy and influence the idea that there are always two sides to every story. Some of the mainly used rhetorical strategies throughout the novel were imagery, diction, tone, and pathos. Furthermore, Capote also illustrated sympathetical emotion towards both types of characters, the protagonists and antagonists.
Reports claimed that John said he spotted the body before he even turned the light on in the basement. It would have been very dark down there and he would have just saw a blanket and could not have told if it was a body or not. The family told their friends and neighbors not to talk to the police out of respect. Then they go and do a interview on Cnn.
Life is a precious blessing and should not be taken from any man or woman, on a similar ground, taking a life does not grant others to take the life of that person. On November 15, 1959 Herb, Bonnie, Kenyon, and Nancy Clutter were all murdered in their home in Holcomb, Kansas. Those convicted of these murders are the two men by the names of Perry Edward Smith and Richard Eugene Hickock, who is better known as Dick. Perry Smith and Dick Hickock should not be killed due to their crimes.
These two men, Perry Smith and Dick Hickock, showed this family no remorse whatsoever that resulted in killings of Herbert, Bonnie, Nancy, and Kenyon Clutter. They had it all planned out I'm sure... go in, tie them up, find the money, and then take off. Flee the city or hell even the state. The killers were under the impression that there was a safe in the house and when they realized that it was not, they could have left. Nobody had to die that day, especially in a brutal way like
