The story starts with Olivia getting kidnapped after crashing her car. She is shoved into a basement and is fed very rarely. She then tries to escape by trying to stab her captor but fails. She then tries again by tricking one of her captors into coming close to her then stabbing him and this time succeeds in escaping. We see this first when she is kidnapped and shoved into a basement. She then accidentally drops a plate with food her captor gives her. She doesn’t fear getting hit because of that though instead she thinks about how she can use the shards as weapons. This shows how she is resilient since she doesn’t fear the worst but instead sees how she can make the situation better than it was. The second reason she is resilient is because in the story we see that she was bullied throughout a large part of her childhood. She was bullied so badly that it resulted into pulling her hair out every time she cried so she could calm down. She didn’t let this stop her from becoming a successful author though instead she says it made her better because of the emotions she experienced. This shows she is resilient because even though she was extremely bullied to the point of self harm she still manages to be successful in life. We see this in the story when she is first kidnapped and is crying for her mom. She is not afraid to show her emotions even in a dangerous situation. We also see her emotional side when she talks about her childhood and how she was bullied. She gets emotional talking about it but also acknowledges how it made her a stronger person. This shows how she is not afraid to confront her emotions and use them to her advantage. Another example is when she talks about her relationship with her ex-boyfriend. She still has strong feelings for him but knows that it is not healthy for her to be with him. This shows how she is aware of her emotions and how they can affect her decisions. After all the long days and nights of working and exhaustion, Amari was determined to stay strong in order to stay strong and survive (Draper 100). Just like Amari, Polly has faced tragedy and cruelty (Draper 78). She uses her strength of bravery to the journey of freedom.
Melinda uses a hyperbole to over exaggerate the situation of being trapped in the janitor’s closet with the rapist, Andy Evans. Comparatively, Hara Estroff Marano, the author of The Art of Resilience, writes, “Resilient people don’t walk between the raindrops, they have scars to show for their experience” (Marano). To get her point across, Marano had to make an overstatement by telling the readers that resilient people don’t take the easy route, they have

Brandi is smart and outgoing, but sometimes insecure and gullible . Meanwhile, Brandi begins healing from her traumatic spring. Her story is revealed through confession. She explains how her being kidnapped is affecting her on a day to day basis, and with no support from friends or family with the incident or school, she tries hard to keep her composure. It was the summer of 1991 and Jaycee Dugard was facing the typical issues an eleven year old girl would. She had plans to go on a school field trip to a water park and wanted to ask her mother if she could shave her legs. However, she was never able to present the topic to her mother. On June tenth, she was kidnapped by Phillip and Nancy Garrido outside of her Lake Tahoe home, in central California, while she was walking to her bus stop. Dugard remained hopeful throughout her first days of abduction that she would return to her mother, step-father, and baby sister shortly, but the Garrido’s had a much different plan.

Classism and its Effects on Society:“The Stolen Party” by Liliana Heker Analysis Society, since the beginning of humankind, has created the idea of social class, differentiating people based on social, political, economical, and financial basis. The contribution of this system in modern day society creates this great gap and repercussions that the lower class has to suffer with. In Liliana Heker’s “The Stolen Party”, it is no different. Heker, through this story, using symbols, figurative language, and irony proves that the difference in fact, is vast and that prejudice lies ubiquitously between the lines. A young girl and the daughter of a maid, Rosaura, gets invited (or so she thought) to go to her “friend” Luciana’s party, unaware of why
