This was the point in time when everything in America became recognized. At this time, everything began to fall into place. The Europeans were establishing colonies, laws were passed, treaties were signed, and friendships were made. This time is called the colonial period. Native Americans were the first to live in America. They had all the necessary tools to survive. They knew how to farm, how to hunt, and how to survive. Native Americans had a different culture and belief system than others. That is just a few important ones (and not nearly all of them). First off was the Mayflower Compact. The Mayflower Compact was signed by people who wanted religious freedom and didn’t want to be under King James’ control anymore. Several men aboard the Mayflower signed the Mayflower Compact agreeing to religious freedom and liberty. The Treaty of Paris ended the American Revolution. The American revolution was when the 13 colonies wanted to become independent which made them very vulnerable to other countries who might try and take them over. So, the Treaty of Paris made the United States an independent nation. The First written Constitution was written by Thomas Hooker, and it simply stated fundamental order in Connecticut. Last, but certainly not least, was the Navigation Act. It was a law that was passed to control the colonial trading. For this project, my group researched the Southern colonies. These colonies were divided into two regions, the Chesapeake colonies, which included Virginia and Maryland, and the Southern colonies, which included the Carolinas and later Georgia. These Southern colonies emerged around the early 1600 's when the Europeans came to the New World and later had an abundance of cash crops which allowed their economy to thrive.
