Was the United States Justified in Going to War With Mexico? After Texas became annexed to the US, tensions grew between the US and Mexico. The two countries could not agree on where the border of Texas was. Mexico claimed that the Nueces River was the Texan border. While the US said the border of Texas was the Rio Grande River. The conflict sparked The Mexican War on May 13th, 1846. The United States was justified in going to war with Mexico because Mexico invaded the US, and Mexico was interfering with the United State’s manifest destiny. The United States was justified in going to war with Mexico because Mexican soldiers brutally murdered Americans, on America’s soil. Doc B is a primary source, written by President James Polk. America’s declaration of War on Mexico had it’s pros like how much land the got from the war and with the land hungry Americans believing more in Manifest Destiny also it started the civil war which put slavery to a stop. The cons to America’s declaration of War on Mexico were how many lives were lost in this small war, and the relationship between Latin America and American Frist of all the Pros to this declaration of War on Mexico was that America got all of Texas which is a big chunk of land that Mexico doesn't have any more because on (page 376) it states, “America’s total expanse, already vast, was increased by about one third counting Texas-an addition even greater than that of the Louisiana Purchase. A sharp stimulus was given to the
Which resulted in some conflict. Was the Unites States Justified in going to war with Mexico? Yes, because of mexican invasions, manifest destiny, and increasing population. The first reason the United States was justified in going to war with mexico is because Mexico themselves invaded them. Where United States claimed to be the border (Rio Grande) they sent soldiers to check to see if mexicans would cross the boundary, and when encountered the mexican troops injured and killed 16 of the 63 men dispatched.(Doc B) Mexico also attempted to subdue Americans’ beliefs.
According to President Polk, “Mexico has passed the boundary of the United States, has invaded our territory and shed American blood upon American soil,” (Document B). The Americans were not the ones that attacked the Mexicans; it was the other way around. The Mexicans and the Americans did not agree on where the border between Texas and Mexico. The Americans were still where they thought their territory was, and the Mexicans invaded America! The Americans needed to fight back to defend their honor.
After Texas became part of the US and also trying to buy California, Mexican soldiers fired upon the Americans. While the Americans were trying to extend the US, Mexican army decided to attack Americans. Mexican army attacked on the Texas side of Rio Grande. The Mexicans attacked on the US territory Texas had already gotten its independence in 1836. This war was in 1846.
The Mexican war began in 1846-1848 shortly after Mexico's independence in 1821, freeing itself from its mother country, Spain. Mexico was huge back in the 1830’s. It stretched out from Guatemala all the way to Oregon and it was equal to the size of The United States. Now I’m gonna give my reasons on why I think The United states was not justified in going to war with Mexico.
One reason that the war was not justified was because the Americans invaded the Mexicans. President James Polk himself ordered “an efficient military force to take position between the Nueces and Del Norte (B).” Even though the Americans might’ve not been on Mexican ground, they obviously intended to intimidate the Mexicans. Mexicans viewed this as the U.S. Invasion. They thought that the military order was an attack on Mexico and that the Mexicans had the right to protect the border (C).
ESSAY The United States was justified in going to war with Mexico because Was trying to help mexico get resources like schools, courts and mills. Also the government for Mexico was weak so they could have attacked them and won. Lastly Mexico passed their boundaries so they had permission to take action.
The U.S. was justified in going to war with Spain. In 1898, the USS Maine exploded, killing more than half the crew. Most of Americans believed it was Spain’ fault. After this happened, people wanted revenge.
In Document B, President Polk said, “I had ordered and efficient military force to take a position...to meet a threatened invasion of Texas by the Mexican forces….invasion was threatened solely because Texas had determined….to annex herself to our Union,... it was plainly our duty to extend our protection over her citizens and soil.” President Polk then mentioned the attack at the Rio del Norte, where the invasion in Texas happened. This evidence shows the US was justified in going to war with Mexico because Texas was invaded by Mexico, meaning that the U.S. should protect Texas by fighting
Was the United States justified in going to war with Mexico? The United States was not justified in going to war with Mexico because they did not respect their laws, culture, and their beliefs. Second of all, this evidence shows that the US was not justified in going to war because it was useless to fight if the Mexicans were going to lose Texas if it was not now, it would be later on. Truly, it was very clear that the Americans won the war because Texas wanted to become part of the US, and the United States wanted to adopt Texas into their union.
God wanted the US to expand. On the contrary, some individuals claim the US was not justified in going to war with Mexico. This point of view makes sense because Texas was Mexico’s to begin with. Despite that, Texas was independent when the US annexed it. Therefore, the united states was justified in going to war with Mexico.
When Mexico gained its independence from Spain in 1821, a string of ruthless dictators and weak presidents made Mexico an easy target for its powerful neighbor, the United States. The US swooped in to expand its territory and its popular institution of slavery. By doing so, the US started a war with Mexico that was justified for illegitimate reasons. The Mexican-American War was not justified because the US took Mexico’s land for the expansion of slavery, and justified their taking advantage of Mexico when it was politically weak by hiding behind Manifest Destiny.
Between the United State of America and Mexico there are many differences in how the war from 1846 to 1848 occurred. One calls it the Mexican-American War, while the others calls it the American Invasion. Based on a territory perspective America took advantage of Mexico, and the president of the United States tempted the Mexican President to declare war in order to take their land. While I am proud to be an American, this war was sought out by America to gain land and expand westward.
One reason the Mexican War was justified was Texas had already declared independence. Texas was no longer apart of the Mexican territory. One of the reasons why Texas had separated was they disliked Mexican rule. This evidence shows the U.S was justified in going to war with Mexico because Texas had independence from the country.
Although the United States war against Mexico resulted in the gaining of America’s most valuable land, the war itself wasn’t legitimate because of the revolution in Texas, motivation for superiority, and the U.S. government’s actions. To begin, the Texans began an unreasonable war because they didn’t follow Mexico’s laws and conditions. When Mexico started selling cheap land, they set conditions for the people moving in. The people had to convert to Catholicism, learn Spanish, become a Mexican citizen, and have no slaves. Many Americans didn’t like being told what to do, and disobeyed the rules and laws.
