In the 20th century, lots of different people of different cultures had come to Canada hoping that they would get better lifestyle, get their rights and do whatever they want to. But what happened is that the people living over there were forced to vacate the land for the other people who came there for earning some capital. This created problems between the first nation people and the Canadian government. Amongst the aboriginal people, there was a person called Joe capilano who was the leader of the Squamish people raised his voice against this issue. “The photo of Joe capilano holding a totem pole clearly shows that he was proud of his culture, he was persistent to fight for aboriginal rights and finally he was a fearless leader”.
The Oka crisis was a clash between a group of Mohawks mainly from the Kanesatake reserve, and the Quebec police over a disputed land that contained a Mohawk burial ground. The Mayor of Oka declared that the land would be used for a golf course expansion, and as a result barricades were erected by protesters in an attempt to halt construction (1). The conflict illustrated Canada’s inequality toward aboriginal people, proved that aboriginals would resort to aggression, and played a key role in creating the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples. The Oka crisis is significant to Canadian history because it showed Canada still had prejudice against its Aboriginal people, showed that natives were willing to use violence to defend their rights, and
Both of the brothers, born from Indian parents who were “recognized band members of the Tobique Indian Reserve,” were charged with, supposedly, minor criminal offenses in Canada. If the brothers had committed serious offenses, then there would not have been people there protesting. Nicolas states, “Therefore, the main issues of the national protest are, the imposed immigration laws disturbing the aboriginal rights of all North American Indians.” Apparently, the Tobique Reserve Chief George Francis (1934-2013; he served two terms as the Tobique Reserve Chief), is part of the problem of Indian rights and the deportation order. Francis is said to frequently leave for Ottawa, and when he obtains a program, he hires his relatives, and it takes a toll on the non-supporters.
In the fictional novel A Separate Peace by John Knowels, the reoccurring message sent to the reader is the relationship of conflict and resolution. He uses the characters in his novel to take his message even further by giving example of how rivalry has its consequences, don’t incriminate someone when it will only cause destruction between both parties and to be honest with the truth so it doesn’t come back and hurt you. In A Separate Peace Knowles continuously shows rivalry as always having a consequence good or bad. In the novel Phineas, Gene’s best friend, is seen to the reader as a star athlete in, what seems to be, every sport he tries.
Being different can be the best talent and gift in the world. It makes one special and it lets one be the amazing person there ment to be. She shows this using dialogue, narrative hook, and conflict.
Conflict. It’s what we all deal with everyday. Problems, dilemmas, discords, it all seems like there’s more problems than we can solve. In a short novel called “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, a man named Sanger Rainsford is left facing a bombardment of conflicts as he is accidentally stranded on an island, occupied by a mysterious man named General Zaroff. Rainsford is compelled to survive three days on the island as he is forced to play Zaroff’s game.

“...you have 3 days…”. Rainsford plus the General where at this weird island also, they were stranded there. While writing a thesis statement I have my own opinion. A thesis statement should be debatable. So not everyone is going to agree with it.

“Change is the law of life. Those who look only to the past or present, are certain to miss the future” (Peters, Wolly). A famous quote stating that change is normal, necessary, and sometimes needed whether it is wanted or not. The citizens of Pleasantville lived the same life, day by day, with no variation. This is why they fear change, but they soon find out change is not entirely a bad thing though it may appear to be.
This book review will define the important aspects of continued mistreatment, deaths, and alienation of Canada's First peoples in Seven Fallen Feathers by Tanya Talaga. One of the most compelling aspects of Talaga’s book is defined in an investigation of the deaths of indigenous students in the mid-20th century, and more importantly, the continued lack of government response to the deaths of seven indigenous youths in the 21st century. All of these incidents show a systemic problem with government monitoring and investigating these deaths of native peoples living in the Thunder Bay region. The tragedy of these incidents reveal an ongoing problem with racism and government non-compliance with preventing the deaths of neglected youths, which
In short fiction, the characters experience conflicts that impact plot development. In the short story “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson, the story had many conflicts one being when Tessie’s son had gathered rocks and started trying to kill his own mother. “The children had stones already. And someone gave little Davy Hutchinson a few pebbles.” (Jackson 7).
Even while doing their job they will spread conflict with other people around them. Sometimes they won’t even have any conflict at all. Everyone around them will eventually get the conflict that they have to deal with. In the book, they don’t just have conflict about one thing,
