The American Revolution was a time when the Americans fought for independence against Great Britain. The war started in 1775 and ended in 1783 with a Victory at the battle of Yorktown. In 1781 George Washington led about 17,000 men in a battle against Charles Cornwallis at Yorktown in the most important battle of the revolutionary war. Washington defeated Cornwallis and nearly 9,000 of his troops. Yorktown was a significant defeat. It was the last battle of the Revolutionary war, that led the British to begin peace negotiations. “If we do not deceive our own men, we will never deceive the enemy” General Washington on why he did not tell his men why they were marching to Yorktown.The quote is by Washington and he said it because he knew that …show more content…

Cornwallis surrendered to Washington on October 18, 1781, ending the war of Independence. Peace negotiations began in 1782 and on September 3, 1783, the Treaty of Paris was signed. We had some help from some people.Here are the people that helped. So after the battle of Saratoga, when we won the battle of Saratoga the French was the American victory and decided to become allies with us. So the french helped us by helping us defeat them, take over the Chesapeake bay, and surround Yorktown. Some other people that helped the colonists were the Native Americans they helped us by helping heal the Soldiers and also some played as cooks but very little. On January 8th Colonel Banastre Tarleton was transferred to the 79th regiment of foot and was recruited to his regular rank.(captain) Tarleton knew Cornwallis.
