Euphrates, Incorporated is a twelve year old not-for-profit cultural arts education organization. The organization’s story begins in Hornse, England in the fall of 1977 when the concept of Euphrates was developed by Emanuel Cooper, Jr. during his studies at the Architectural Association in London, while an independent design research student from the Kansas City Art Institute. As a result of his personal dream and an unsolicited grant from the late William T. Kemper, then Chairman of the Commerce Bank of Kansas City, Missouri, Euphrates was incorporated in December 1984 with a focus on art, history & culture.
Today the organization’s interest has developed to focus specific attention on an appreciation for historic preservation and research, commonalities and comparative differences in human culture, as well as innovative scholarly research and experimentation, in support of the development of new educational tools. In essence, Euphrates concerns are cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary. Intellectual, professional and economic resource development, including selective commercial endeavors, are the primary activities currently managed by the institution.
Since 1984 Euphrates has produced and presented exhibitions such as Genesis, The Evans Tibbs Collection, 1987; British Ceramics 1986; Chinatown Interiors 1986; and Gordon Parks, From the Huge Silence, 1987. Euphrates is currently developing two major exhibitions. Both of the exhibitions explore new ways in which audiences interact with exhibitions.
Euphrates mission is to encourage greater awareness and appreciation of the significant value of a multi-faceted world. This goal encourages appreciation of diversity. It also embraces the artistic and educational importance of analyzing and incorporating traditional and nontraditional technologies. With a focus on the applied and fine arts, the application of appropriate traditional and nontraditional technologies serve as communication tools to foster forums of dialogue and scholastic consideration.
