Introduction of Visual Impairment Visual impairment can be defined as the limitation of one or more visual system’s functions. The most common visual impairments affect the visual acuity, visual fields and colour. Visual impairment can be represented by low vision and blindness. Planning is required to ensure that environments and strategies are conducive to provide positive learning experiences and opportunities to practice skills. Parents and teachers can enrich children’s learning experiences by providing information through multi-sensory teaching approach and making links between areas of experience. When the children with visual impairment are assimilating the new experiences, the adults should give more time for the children to build up a more coherent picture of the world. Special adaptation (i.e, use of large print) and appropriate assistive technologies, such as digital talking books, screen reading software and screen enlarging software, can be provided to enhance the learning of children with visual impairment.
