Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel were both composers during the Baroque Period. They were both very influential in music. However, they both lived very different lives and composed different types of music. Johann Sebastian Bach was born in 1685. Bach was raised in the Lutheran Church, and this had a large influence on his music. He started out as an organist, being named the Duke of Weimar’s court organist and chamber musician. From 1717-1723, Bach became the composer for the prince of Anhalt-Cöthen. During this time, he produced concertos, suites, sonatas for different instruments, and he produced keyboard music. In 1756 in Salzburg, Austria, Mozart was born. Mozart was extremely gifted as a child. He began composing music before he was five-years-old, and by the age of thirteen, Mozart had written concertos, sonatas, religious works, symphonies, and several operas. Mozart was very much against the patronage movement, and he rebelled against the social restrictions that it put on musicians. By twenty-five, he was a struggling freelance musician in Vienna. Mozart passed away in 1791 at the age of 35. The Marriage of Figaro, Cosí fan tutte, and Don Giovanni on librettos by Lorenzo da Ponte were Mozart’s three comic operas which helped him to reach the greatest point in his career. Mozart was able to compose many masterpieces despite being in bad health as well. Some of these masterpieces include his Clarinet Concerto and his final opera, The Magic Flute. Mozart also began working on the Requiem which he was unable to finish before he passed
